Title: Over enthusiastic ABS?
Post by: hamiltonl on November 25, 2004, 02:54:47 PM
Hi

I\'ve just taken my FD for it\'s first proper \'test drive!\' and have appear to have a slight problem with the brakes. When braking with any effort it feels as though the ABS is kicking in even though I\'m not braking hard enough to lock the wheels. General everyday level braking is fine. Does this sound likely with ABS? Any common causes? Any help appreciated....

Thanks

Does it feel like a jack hammer under your foot ?

are you 100% sure that you arent locking the wheels up ?

No ABS Problem ( on the dash )

Can you feel it thru the brake pedal or steering wheel ?

thanks

Yeah did feel like jackhammer under foot, not that severe though.

Wasn\'t braking hard enough to lock up the wheels, on good dry tarmac aswell.

No dash light while driving. Comes on with ignition then off, flashes briefly when turning off.

Don\'t recall feeling it through the wheel.

What do you think? Pull ABS fuse and re-test???

Cheers

I had this problem with a Saxo i had.  As soon as you braked the ABS kicked in even at very slow speeds so there was no way i was locking the wheels.  I sold it soon after so i never got round to getting it fixed but i can remember it being really annoying!! :reallymad

i cant personally see a problem with pulling the ABS fuse and retrying

you need to get it fixed ( or removed ) though - as it will need MOT\'ing in the future ???

check the discs and pads, if the pads are very low it can cause problems with brake judder
