Title: Checking a Turbo II gearbox
Post by: rich on November 24, 2004, 10:32:31 PM
Hi all,

I\'m looking to buy a Turbo II gearbox which apparently is good condition. The \'box is out of the car already, is there anything I can check or will I just need to take the seller\'s word for it?

Do these \'boxes usually handle a little bit of abuse and can they handle plenty of miles or do they usually need to be rebuilt within a certain lifetime?

Any advice appreciated.

Rich.

mines done 105K and its not toooo bad

does that help ?

my egi had done 114K and that was superb ( apart from the peddal staying on the floor every so often )

OK, I guess there\'s nothing I can check with it out of the car. So I\'ll just need to take the word of the seller and hope it\'s OK when it\'s installed.

Has anyone had one rebuilt who can give me an idea what it would cost, in case it comes to that?

Cheers,
Rich

In most cases if it needs a rebuild - you would buy a second hand unit - its far cheaper
