As I\'m now finding it increasingly difficult to drive within the speed limits I\'ve been looking around at the various radar detection gadgets on the market.
Based on the fact that you only get what you pay for I\'m looking for advice from anyone who has experience of such things.
Had no points on my licence for a long time and would like to keep it that way:burnout
had a snooper, more false alrms than anything else, someone farts and off she goes. They do work coz your forever on the brakes and never get any decent speed up. If I replace will prob be with Godessy or Rd Angel as they have both systems, info downloaded from internet and detection.
I have a Valentine 1, get false alarms in town but otherwise great. The big problem is the price in the UK, much cheaper in the US but they will not ship to the UK so have to get someone with a US address to buy for you and ship/bring over.

Can you elaborate G11ary, is there more than one tye of system?
How do they work, I guess they all pick up the radar signal, how do they differ ?

We have a group buy just been announced to us by one of our members. The
buy is fantastic value. The standard retail price on the Snooper S6-R
Neo is £499.00 we are getting this model of £299 + vat which is
£354.00. You will be given a Vat Invoice as well as full proof of
purchase.
The S6-R Neo is a state of the art GPS and Detector in one. It detects
Gatso\'s and Lasers etc as well as having the GPS Database that is works
from for giving you all of the fixed positions. Checkout
//www.snooperuk.com for more in on the unit. Anyone that wants in on the

Hi,
The type of "detectors" Gary has mentioned are the sort that uses a gps to know where you are and then checks what speed cameras are near you.
Have a look here:-
http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/menu_speedcamera.asp
You can either get a dedicated unit or make your own using a hand held computer and a cheap gps unit.
I\'ve tried this sort of system using my Compaq Ipaq and a hand held Garmin Etrex gps, running tomtom navigator (road navigation system like autoroute) with a database of speed camera positions.
This sort of system works well for established speed cameras, but not much use against mobile ones or new installs!
I guess you would have to check how often the database is updated!

I\'d advise a bit of research before going for the snooper as I\'ve heard less than great reports on it.
I\'ve had a Bel 990 (replaced by the 550) for quite a few years and can highly recommend it, useless around town, but has saved me a few times on the open road.
If money was not a problem I\'d get a road angel and laser diffusers front and rear.
