I have an Re-Amemiya cone filter, thats looking a bitter grotty to be honest. Its a foam based one, rather than paper or mesh, so what can I use to clean it? I know you can get foam filter cleaners, but am I ok to use any one?

I used a pipercross cleaner & hasnt fallen to bits yet, you can get new filter inserts somewhere in UK
Foam filters I always use mineral turps. This is what\'s recommended by Unifilter and bottled filter cleaners are no different, just more expensive.
I use a mixture of methonol and nitromethane to clean my sponge filters. It makes them expand to nearly twice the size, but they are spotless and soon take their original size and shape back.
Plus it helps the breathing and prevents water vapour getting anywhere near the internals:D
