Those of you who were at Rotorstock will remember a certain white (and pink) Norton Rotary \'Streetfighter\' motorcycle called \'Speed Trochoid\'. The owner has just built this new exhaust for it, whadda you think?....
and again...
and again...
excellant, a rotor shaped exhaust, why the bloody hell did I not think of that when having my custom jobbies done. Top job.
Wow, that\'s a work of Art:)
Seems a shame to bolt it on anything and subject it to all those nasty gasses.
Ive spoken to Geoff about it and he says that if anyone wants a Trochoid back box made for their mazda he would be up for it. Geoff made the exhaust on my bike and its top quality, Stainless and Titanium throughout. He is a welder in the aircraft industry so he knows his stuff.
cool, thats going to be loud
I\'ve seen these in Oz before and they look very :cool
I have a FD how much will it be for that? That really is the coolest thing i have seen in a long time

Not bad is it?! An RX7 version will have to be built to order and i expect Geoff will need the dimensions you want it made to. You will have to discuss price with Geoff. PM me with your email address and i will pass it onto him.
That is really great work!!
One small point, the rotor housing is the trochoid and the rotor is the the rotor.
Not that I wish to take anything away from the work,it is fantastic.
Regards
Carl
Hi Carl, a trochoid is a linear version of the rotor housing profile which is a epitrochoid with very specific dimensions.
Epitrochoid (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Epitrochoid.html)
Trochoid (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/Trochoid.html)
Nice Java demonstration (http://www.monito.com/wankel/j-epi.html)
I\'ll shut up now (I think Clive wants his rotary anorak back :D )
Oh!... thanks for pointing that out. I knew the shape of the housing was an Epitrochoid and always assumed that the shape of the rotor was the Trochoid.
That\'s some impressive workmanship! :god
Is this a standard FD exhaust???....
The box shown looks like a Racing Beat aftermarket one, the stock box has two little pipes out of the back.

Yes that is right mike,
I was just trying to keep it simple.

Now that will look sweet on a rex, but more than likely will look better on a bike because you\'ll be able to see more of it:cool
Excellent bit of kit,
Paul:)

If anyone follows this up and contacts the guy I\'d be interested in a rough price for these and may find the money in the new year if getting 2 makes it cheaper and the price is right.
Really cool :cool

Group buy anyone!?!?!?!?!
I want one of these aswell.
Dan!!
Good Grief, he will be a busy boy...
Anyone interested, PM me with your e-mail addresses and i will pass them on.

Please! need to know what Mazda reckon is the optimum outlet pipe area as a starting point, in fact any info would be good, like is the pipe that comes out of the front end of the back box straight or curved and offset or in line? clamped pipe diameter? overall lengths? etc. Ideally we could do with getting hold of one... I dont suppose anyone in the North West of England happens to have an old or spare one knocking about, gathering dust do they?
Does everyone who is interested, so far, run a 3rd gen? or are we looking at a 2nd gen twin box version as well? This may all take some time, the man only has so many hours in a day!!
Sorrry norton dude, i only have an re-amemiya back box, nothing like the orignal.................however the pics you have look just like the standard items
!!!!!!!!
But i know what you mean.........does anyone have a good standard back box to lend norton dude, so his mate can copy????
Would love this to genrate to a group buy.
Dan!!
Right, both pipes coming out of the stock back box are 2 1/4 inch
didn\'t look at the entry to the back box, sorry.
I\'ll donate my stock back box if someone will give me an aftermarket replacement to keep me driving! :D :D ;)
Norton,
I don\'t know if I can afford this right now, but can you PM me the contact details for this guy so I can establish what sort of price we\'re talking about. Will he do full cat back or even a full system? Would be happy to put toghether a spec for these and if helpful, my car could be a test case for others...

Thanks, Two 2&1/4 inch pipes, thats about the same as one 3&1/4 inch if my maths serves me right (around 8cm).
I imagine Geoff will need to figure out what he needs to build before he can price it up. I think the idea is just to produce a rotor shaped rear section, does it extend all the way forward to just behind the cat or is there a clamp point just ahead of the back box?
This pic of an aftermarket FD pipe would suggest that there IS a join just ahead of the back box, is this the same as the standard system?
I\'m not sure of the joins and it\'ll be next week before I can look, but I wouldn\'t take the stock system as the optimal arrangement as I think it\'s restrictive.
I do however know that the Blitz NUR spec R is 3 inch bore pipe entering the back box and a 4 inch exit. This might be a better basis to work with provided the sizing matched up to the midpipe/cat section.
Gregor
Another pic ive found of an aftermarket FD pipe shows the mounting hangers... look familiar anyone?
