Hiya,
anyone know where the "Add coolant" sensor is located? - (\'92 3rd gen)
Searching through the forum, some say below the filler cap, others, on the radiator.
Mine comes on within ten seconds of starting - even when cold.
Thanks
On the filler neck. Single wire plug.
Just had to change mine. :(

Cheers Fish.
Can you get a replacement anywhere or did you have to go to Mazda?
I just got mine from Mazda. Think it was about 20 quid. Bloody rip off, but it fixed the problem.

Cool.
Anyone out there help me out with the part number?
Thanks
Try N3A1 -15 - 610A,
Yes 20 something pounds.
But on my parts list, it goes on the "Thermostat cover".
I would understand the filler neck to be the white plastic one on the overflow tank - thats NOT where it is on the parts list..
Thanks Martiny,
my understanding is that the filler neck is the one nearest the top of the engine - by the air pump. I think the thermostat is around there somewhere.
Thanks everyone - this forum ROCKS!!!
Ok, that ties up with the parts list.
But arent we supposed to top it up using white expansion tank in front of the rh wheel?
Have you been using colgate whitening toothpaste on that battery?
;)

Are we?!
Thats not what people were saying in my thread about my coolant loss......
Ok , I could be wrong.
There is a level marking on the stick in the white plastic bottle.
So, do we check the level there, but fill it up from the "Thermostat cover" or filler neck as its being called here?
The Plastic tank by offside Wheelarch is the expansion tank. This has a dipstick in it to check the coolant level. Coolant moves from this tank via the AST during expansion and vacuum of the cooling system.
The main filling point is the cap ontop of the thermostat housing as indicated in an earlier posted Picture. Top up at this point using coolant mix to about 1" below cap.
Hope this helps,
Kev
Right we are suffering from terminology here!
Here is what Mazda calls the parts!
Sorry, here it is!
Jeez, why cant I attach a new file?
Why cant I delete my own post???
Trying again!
With Ref. to previous reply
Sorry how do you guy\'s get picture up as a view within text instead of attachment as mine just did???
Crikey!
Just tried to order the part at an Irish mazda dealer - â,¬106!!! Tha\'s about £60! Jeeeez I thought the prices in the UK were bad enough!
wrt topping up the coolant. I understand you use the middle "filler neck"(that\'s what it says on the cap), when filling the system up. For normal topping up/level checking, you use the dipstick thingy on the expansion bottle.
Anyway, I\'ve ordered a new sensor from those nice chaps at Mazda Crayford. A snip at £23
The battery just LOOKS clean (flash)- it\'s filthy now!!
I have a section at the bottom that says "Attach file". Just press "Browse", pick the photo from your computer, and bob\'s your uncle!
ala.....
That\'s what I did!!
Thanks for puuting it up though
Kev
I have noticed that the system does that with mostly bitmaps (.bmp) try saving the images to .jpg instead.
The only way coolant can get from the expansion tank to the cooling system is via the small hose connected to the AST just below cap during a vacuum situation. Although you should check and maintain a level on the dip stick in the expansion tank, I think it is important to check and top up from fill point on thermostat housing (when engine is cold of course).
Kev
P.S. Thanks for the tip about Pic\'s, I will remember that.
Sorry to bang on about this chaps, but I\'m starting to get a bit worried now.
Changed the sensor - no change.
Decided to renew the coolant with Di water/antifreeze/water wetter.
Also changed the thermostat, as I\'m sure the engine is overheating.
You see, after a trip, I turn it off, and when I set off again (5-30 mins later), it starts ok, but soon after, it cuts out. After restarting, it sort of stumbles along trying to cut out for about 5 mins.
I have been putting 1 or 2 cupfuls of water in for the last week or so. convinced that there was a big air pocket in the block itself - even filled the system up from the water pipe to the plenum.
One time (at band camp), after I turned the engine off, and left the ignition on, the fans stayed on for nearly 10 minutes.
The stock water temp gauge never goes above normal.
There is no sign of a leak anywhere.
The yellow-ish gunge under the oil cap is normal I believe for this time of year
So I have a couple of questions please...
1) where is the relay & sensor that turns on the fans?
2) Is there another water level sensor somewhere?
Bearing in mind it\'s recently had a rebuild, anyone have any ideas?
I plan to get it to Pip as soon as possible, but it may be late January before I can get on the ferry. In the meantime I\'d appreciate any advice as I\'m starting to get a bit fed up with the whole thing now.
Cheers
