Post by: mazda bait on November 22, 2004, 04:34:34 PM
Unfortunately it\'s now a dead cert i need a new engine or rebuild.  However i\'ve got the oppurtunity to buy an rx8 engine will it fit into my fd3s without too much hassle.  Any input would be greatly appreciated as i know at least another 2 people are interested in the engine...???

There will allways be problems with putting another engine into a different car but the RX8 engine does bolt up to the FD gearbox ok.Anything can be made to fit.
Regards
Carl

the interesting bit will be the ECU as the Rx8 one is a super computer even compared to an FD ECU, best bet is to ditch it completely and run somthing like a motec etc.  The rest of the fitting is just simple engineering, might be expensive if you don\'t DIY it but its not rocket science.

What would be the advantage to this then,

well for one thing i don\'t know of anyone else  who has done one... so i\'ve instantly got an fd that\'s a bit different.  Plus the fuel economy is supposedly better and the engine is going cheap!

Can I ask, is it a 4 port or 6 port engne, the 6 port is better n/a and the 6 port better suited to turbo, and how much, interested as I have a 4 port for sale, as I was going to turbo charge it.
If you do go Motec I have a nice 2nd hand MoTec unit for sale.

I only found out about the engine today and aren\'t too sure on spec.  The rx8 was written off and has to be broken so he\'s letting the engine go for 2150 + i\'m hoping i\'ll be able to nick the ECU too. And if i can\'t get that engine i\'ll buy anything as long as it\'s got a good bit of poke!

Ok, so You\'ll spend 2K on the engine, and then I am guessing at least 1K on getting the ecu sorted.

Yes, it is slightly more fuel efficient, but then its much less powerful than a twin Turbo.

I say you are better off getting Carl to rebuild your engine, probably around 2.5K.

Of course, if its the " Oh look at that" factor you are after, then only you know how much it is worth to you:)

I\'ve asked Mr. Pip, he replied as follows;

Hi Sean
I\'m sure we could do this, but I think he\'d find the 7 a bit under powered afterwards. The 8 engine is much less torquey. How much is he paying for the 8 engine and what comes with it? Loom, ECU ???
It\'s no problem to fit those bits to your car. Are you supplying or do you want me to quote?
Cheers
Pip

I think he misunderstood me, I think he wants to do it:o
I\'ll have to explain to him that it was only a quick question;)

Hope this answers your questions:wave

Cheers for the advice everybody.  Think i might try and get another 13b engine and squeeze some more bhp out of it for my money or have mine rebuilt!
