HI all
Looking to change my ohlins while I get them rebuilt. Usage will be fast road & maybe the odd track day/drag strip. Was wondering if anyone had used the following & their views??.
Tein Flex or RE
Cusco Zero 2
Apexi N1
HKS Hypermax
Tanabe Sustec
Blitz TR1
Cheers
Gerry
Gerry, I have no idea about suspension, at all!!
But I do know that Tein has always had a good name and I know that ShyAuto are doing a deal on them. Have a look in the vendors section. As for other options Id hope a couple of the other people with other set ups reply to this and let you know because im interested to find out too, but suspension mods for me is a very long time away.
Currently running RZ Bilsteins with coilover modification. There currently very hard and not ideal for Bristish roads but you really do appreciate a new stretch of tarmac! So much harder than stock with minimal body roll.
Would like to hear peoples comments on what they have and what they\'ve run in the past for comparison.
Aragosta are one of the best you can get in Japan and cost around 258,000 Yen, Kazama also do their own tailered version of the damper for FD\'s.
Hi Gerry,
Have a look here for one of the comments we have received about Tein suspension on an FD, the nice thing about this kit is that unlike most it lets you keep yer teeth if you hit a bump out on the road and is also the most adjustable set of struts l have even seen in my life !!
We have one customer with this kit who now has fuel surge in the chicane at Snetterton because he is going through it so much quicker :rollin :rollin

We are offering the Flex kit for £50 off for orders coming through MRC and seeing as it\'s Christmas we will throw in
free carrage as well :) :)
Hope this helps
All The Best Clive
My last FD had teins and a very stiff spring set up. I found it actually ruined the ride of the car as I use it on the \'real\' roads more then any track.
My current Fd has a stock set up and for me, as I do not use it for track days (sorry) it is firm enough and very, very liveable with. I am actually chnaging the stock shocks for ....another set of stock shocks as one of the rears is leaking and all 4 have probably had their day.
I have heard good things about KYBs aswell on other makes and was a popular option on my next to last car a modded fiat 20V Turbo.
I think you need to ride and drive other people\'s cars and see what you think aswell.
Wooooah! Ohlins are real good... if they are recent-ish models then try and get them rebuilt? If you want performance for ok cash then Ohlins (Giles has some very nice stuff with remote resvoirs :D on his GT car) or Bilsteins or Konis (cheap) would be my bet for road use. I have Tein HA\'s (couple of years old) on my car and they are very crashy compared to a lot of other stuff, I certainly wont replace them with more. Must point out though I\'ve not yet driven the Flex\'s and thus cant comment on them, could be a lot more compliant than the older Teins all are?
PS nothing personal Clive about the Teins. And no, Geff doesnt sell Ohlins or Bilstein before any one starts...(he does sell Tein ironically tho).
I LOVE TEIN, TIEN LOVES ME
( I will give you your glasses back one day rich btw.. I dont wanna post them though! :()

Rich you MUST MUST try a car with the Flex kit fitted as it takes away exatly what you have mentioned i.e. all the crashy stuff that goes on with these cars, and l bet you will want one of these yourself,
The other bonus is they are soooo adjustable.
The Flex kit really is built as a true Road n Track kit and not a Track kit that you can try and use for the road :)
Will try and have a go the next time Geff fits s aset and report back sir :)
do the rich "mcdonalds" test on them ;)
The Tein Flex kit certainly works for me - only used it on road so far and is a big improvement over my tired old stock stuff.
The spring pre-load\'s set a bit higher than the \'standard\' setting as I\'m hoping to do plenty of track work. It could be set up to be more road compliant if I wanted to. Damping\'s in the middle so I can also go pretty stiff (ooer!) when I need to.

Rich go to McDonalds Never:bandit
Had Tein HAs on my previous car, and HKS hipermax on my current car - both very firm and crashy.
Have heard lots of good things about Tein Flex re ride comfort.
What do you mean by crashy guys????
Hard with pillow mounts for road use or crap handling, i.e crashy?
Hi Jus,
By using the word "crashey" that we have used in these posts it has been to describe the fact that when you hit a pot hole or a big bump in the road with either standard worn suspension or most track type hard coil over shock set up\'s on an FD it feels like you have just left half your car and your teeth in the afore mentioned obstacle.
I have now found along with others that the Tein Flex suspension kit lets the car almost glide in and out of pot holes and things and hence takes away the "crashey" sensation.
It\'s just been a pleasant side effect from fitting this kit to an FD, so this means you now have a car that not only corners a lot faster but you also end up with a more pleasant comfortable car to drive.
p.s. l am finding personally that a lot of cars with 50K+ on them have dead shocks anyway, and that by renewing the shocks a lot of the rattles and bangs go away and that the noises were not after all caused by worn suspension bushes etc
Hope the above waffle helps.
Sorry to be a dunce but what does the flex kit include, am a bit green on the suspension side of things. A higher mileage car will have tired dampers, also bushes yes? so are bushes done at the same time? what else needs replacing with this work?
Just tryin to cost it before i jump in at the deep end!!!

The Tein Flex Kit comes as a complete ready to bolt on kit with dampers springs and top mounts, meaning you literally unbolt your complete damper assembly via the three top bolts and the one bottom one and renew the whole assembly.
Have a look here for more info http://www.tein.co.uk/products/fpindex.html
We supply this kit at a special discounted price for MRC members of £998 inc Vat and delivery, and we also supply a full set of easy to follow fitting and set up instructions with every kit that uses the knowledge we have learnt from fitting many of these kits ourselves to customer cars.
( several customers have found the instructions easy to use)
Hope this helps.
In the interests of spreading the cost, is it possible to buy the springs / dampers first and then fit the EDFC at a later date? Or is the fitting for the stepper motor thingies not the same fitting that the manual adjust would screw into?
You can buy just the coilovers Zack, and get the EDFC later.
I\'ve currently got the HKS hipermax coilovers but am not really that satisfied with them on the whole. I\'m looking at the Tein super drifts and the Zeal fuction type D\'s...... i have the zeal fuction v6\'s on my scoob ans they are simply amazing.
ive said it in the other post about suspension but i fitted tien flex\'s to my fc and it made a big difference. i set the damping to 5 in from soft and it was like a magic carpet. i firmed it up a bit more but havent had much in the way of play time so that is all ive experianced.
i would recomend them. the car can take off on bumps if you go fast enough because the struts are shorter.
