Title: Fast Fours Magazine visit to the UK 19/07/03
Post by: Glenn Butcher on May 28, 2003, 11:27:32 AM
Hi all,

I have been contacted by a guy who works for Fast Fours & Rotaries Magazine in Australia (possibly the biggest rotary magazine in the world). He is visiting the UK in July.

He was wondering if there were any rotary meets on at that time - as far as I can tell at the moment there isn\'t???  Please let me know if there is something on then - as it could work out nicely.

It would be great if we can get a stack of cars together, the best day is going to be Saturday 19/07/03. Can I have some suggestions please on where we should meet up and what we should do etc. I was thinking something like a pub meet would be perfect, and a cruise so he can get some great photos/ and possibly video footage.

It will have to be somewhere where we can get as many people as possible together.

This will obviously be a combined effort between all the clubs (really going to be mazdarotaryclub.com and FDUK as far as I can tell at the moment).

Would be great to show all the people in Down Under how the rotary is coming along here at a rapid rate!

Looking forward to your replies.

.ps This is the weekend before JAE at Billing, and it is the only weekend he can do this unfortunately.

Well I was impressed with Brooklands - would that not be suitable, home of british motorsport ect. Access isn\'t too bad and we had a lot attend last time.

I was thinking along similar lines :)

To be convenient for most it would have to be in that neck of the woods.

Did think about Beaulieu, but that would be less convenient in terms of distance for most in the North of England the East

Needs to be some where there\'s room to do a couple of doughnuts at least doesnt it? Not sure Brooklands can manage that!

Why not ask Mazda UK to sponser it? Marketing and sales makes the world go round (oh yeah an sex too!), Mazda UK (and Mazda fullstop) last time I read the shares and market reports are doing massively well on the basis of the MX-5 and new six. They need that momentum to continue especially in the UK where they can *win* over the hearts of not only the growing base of rotary fans,  but also the company car and lease drivers. It is a win-win solution for the corporation and the followers - they get fantastic exposure and the UK rotary scene gets an excellent base for such a rare, unique and original shoot............

Of course just my few apex seals worth and anything I say is truely based on my own actions and alleged mind :)

Glen

Had a thought [unusual for me!] If you are after moving shots and a gathering - how about the pub we met in to go to Bolney in Godstone [sorry can\'t remember the name] and maybe a cruse down to Brighton? / Box Hill? - just a thought.

what about Bruntingthorpe, that place has got plenty of room and is central, not only that I also know the owner well, and he is definately a fast car nut, so he might just be up for it.
Title: Donington!
Post by: boltoa on May 30, 2003, 09:19:39 AM
I agree with Mike - Donington has got to be ideal as it is so centrally located and with great road links. And they have a huge car park behind the pits.

Andrew
PS - it\'s Donington, not Donnington :D

Glenn,
Will be up for this m8!!! Not sure about meeting places though, got to be central to everyone and large enough to accommodate us all. Will think about it and keep you posted.

Well Glen
You have plenty of interest, sounds to me like a norf v\'s sarf situation- maybe the solution would be a meet half way [north of the M25] and a cruse there after. Did think of your area, prehaps the milenium dome [not much good for anything else!] - big car park, a few tunnels to fly through (AKA street racing in Japan), could be fun.

I\'m on call that weekend but if I can swap it I\'ll bring the Cosmo along. How about the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon? that\'s got to have enough room and it\'s fairly central.

Title: Aussie coming
Post by: RotaUte on June 13, 2003, 06:40:50 AM
Hey all,

Boxer from Fast Fours here. It\'s all true. I\'ll be in London from Tuesday the 15th of July until midday Sunday the 20th. So if anyone wants to hook up and go cruising, check out the sites, have a meet or even have a sculling competition at the local pub, let me know. First time I\'ve been to the UK even though my Dad is British, so I don\'t really have any idea of what is where and who to see. Anyhow, the more stuff I get to see, the more stuff goes in the mag :)

cheers

Boxer, some of us are trying to organise a little get together for the 19th for you. Little meet up, and a cruise about sort of thing.

What else are you looking at getting up to whilst in the UK? Do you have anywhere specific that you would like to go?

Dan

Hi Boxer  welcome to our club.

Seeing as Boxer is in London how about meeting on the Sat afternoon or evening at  our Southern Pub Meet venue which would mean,   there\'s somewhere to park  and take pics ,somewhere to run the cars ( real nice carriageway + roundabouts to play on out front ), foods O/K for those who travel ,easy to find near the tunnel, and it\'s in the same road as Mazda Europe ,so he can at least have a peek through the windows!  then cruise on down to Bluewater or Southend maybe.

So what do you all think ?????????????????????.

All the best Clive

â€˜The Wharf’ (pub/restaurant), Galleon Boulevard, Dartford, Kent from 8.00pm onwards. To get there from the Dartford Crossing- heading southbound into Kent from Essex: take the 1st exit (Kent side) then follow the “Bluewater” signs onto Crossways Business Park. Turn right at the second roundabout, (past Mazda HQ!), go straight ahead at the next roundabout and it\'s at the end of the road. Contact Clive@mazdarotaryclub.com for further details.

I guess also if I\'m gonna be there for a few days leading up to the 19th, I\'d love to check some other place out, eg: tuning shops, tracks, whatever really. I was even thinking about crashing the offices of Max Power. Anyone out there got a bit of time up their sleeve during those days? I wouldn\'t be a scum... I\'d return the favour should anyone wanna take a look around Sydney :)

Boxer, from memory Max Power is some way away from London, but Fast Car is London/Kent boarders, with the main editor having just sold his FD for a skyline. :(

Trackwise you have a couple to go to, I will check the different tracks and see whats going on.

There is a couple of tuning shops that get most of the work from the rotary world. Portsmouth, Reading, Kent, etc. I am ure that we could get you to some of them.

I may not be able to get the whole week off, but I am sure that a few other people will be willing to help out.

Keep me posted. Only a week and a but until I take off to the USA, then I\'m not totally sure how much access I\'ll get to the internet between now and then.

Cheers mate

OK, I have spoken with Mark (Boxer) tonight, and the plan is as follows.

Meet at the Wharf pub next to Dartford crossing on Saturday at about 17:00 (That\'s 5pm ;) ) Have a drink or two, have a chat, take some pictures, then off to southend for some fun with the nova/cossie boys/girls.

So who\'s up for this? More the better, you dont get a chance to get your car in one of the best rotary magazines in the world very often, and heres your chance!

Hi All,

Boxer ( Mark)  the editor of Fast Fours and Rotarys Mag in Australia is
visiting here for just a couple of days ( shame he is not here for Billing)
we are trying to give him some cars to look at etc on Saturday evening so if
any of you would like to come along to the Wharf pub  nr  Dartford tunnel
between 7 and 8 please do so, then on to Southend

below is a post l put up in the Mazdarotaryclub.com forum with details of
the pub etc.

Seeing as Boxer is in London how about meeting on the Sat afternoon or

road.

lf not see you all at billing.
