Title: jingle, jingle?
Post by: G@NDY on November 11, 2004, 07:25:26 PM
Havent had the rex long and its developed an annoying problem, and i just wondered if you guys had any thoughts:wave, The symptoms are a jingle jingle noise when you give it some revs and let off:D  doesnt matter what speed or what revs? it doesnt do it on throttle or at idle:confused: Ive had it up on ramps and the noise is coming from around the second turbo! and sounds a little rotational? The car is fast but not wanting to pull much above 5500rpm making me think that it is either an actuator or turbo:(  The car has done 42k and is completely standard(for now anyway) Any help would be mucho appreciated, cheers:wave

how could you not mention bourne being famous for BRM, didn\'t it also host the British GP at some point post WWII. :D

if it were on boost I would have said the jingle noise is detonation, but on over run

Saffron Walden sounds very continental! I will have to look it up using the road map device!:) I think im around and about that weekend, but going away for 5 weeks on the 25th so it might be a bit tight. If i can squeeze it in then defo!
The detonation thing sound very expensive so we wont mention that again, I thought someone might mention a cheap fix like a faulty cigarette lighter:rollin

have you had a look round for anything loose ?  I seem to recall someone having a strange noise caused by one of the oil injectors, I\'ll see if I can dig it out.

How about a Lincs meet once the better weather gets going ? unless you don\'t mind me turning up in the rally sh1tter :)

Dan Norton is also from Lincs

P.S

on the cheap service thing, had you thought about changing plugs and oil yourself ? its fairly simple and will save you a shedload with an RX as they need regular services (circa 3000miles)

thanks for the replies Mike, the Lincoln meet will be a definite mate. I have had a look at that oil injector thread and i dont think its that! Ive had it on the ramps, with a stethascope thingy mabob and it is coming from the second turbo, its not the rotors or the clutch and its just had a new gearbox. if its at idle and you rev it the engine sounds normal until you stop reving, then it will jingle jingle jingle until the revs get back to idle, that guy dennis from the service thread isnt really an expert and he didnt know, suggested that it could have lost a blade on the exhaust side. dave at rotechnics suggested that it might be one of the actuators either pre boost or one of the other two? I hope its not the turbo:(  ive only done 300 miles and its knacked already. As for the servicing myself, that was the intention so i got all the bits did a bit of research, so in theory i new where the spark plugs were, i took the throttle body-intercooler pipe off for access as someone said and spent an hour and could only see one:rolleyes: I think it could be made harder on mine as it is fitted with an oil prewarmer which sits right next to the filter making it hard to get in from the top.

I\'ll have a look at sorting a lincs meeting if we get enough interest.

The best way to change plugs is from underneath so I am told. That is where 1st gens are great, I can just about climb in the engine bay and stand next to my engine :cool  loads of room to get to stuff

I went out in the rex yesterday as the weather was nice for a change, and its getting even more mysterious:confused:  I came off a slip road to join a dual carriageway and tried to overtake a bmw of all things, i put my foot down in third and 4000, 5000, 6000 not really moving so I put it in 4th ! and 4000, 5000 everything went blury and left the beemer for dead! Sometimes in fith when you put your foot down it tries to be fast then it feels like somehting gives way or something shuts because it almost jolts into life and flys like the mighty car should:D
