as the title says really.
Already got PFC installed.
Thinking of downpipe, catback and either midpipe or highflow cat depending on the answer to this question.
I have this crazy notion that you can\'t pass emissions tests if you decat as you get a diffeent test for cars built 1996 and after.
Can someone in the know please help me out? Don\'t want to spend out on a highflow cat if I can put in a midpipe at much less cost.
Depends where you go for the mot ???;)
cheers :p
was hoping for an answer on what would be the case if I go to a legitimate MOT centre though.
Anyone? :)
if you go to a legit center, you will fail! :)

It\'s not a crazy notion, it\'s true.
There are obviously a lot of real rotary friendly garages out there come MOT time though judging by the huge amount of people without a cat ;)
I may well be wrong but cars post 1993 will need a cat test. i think import cars are now subject to the same mot test as a uk car.
scott
Hears a legit MOT centre. Give him a call, nice fella.

Hmm interesting, if this IS correct i might well get rid of my cat at some point.
Gregor, try Thames Valley MOT centre in Reading, Dave is RX friendly but still a good, well respected and legal MOT\'er, if you call him first and let him know what you are planning I\'m sure he will be able to advise you. I\'m sure with a properly mapped PFC it must be possible without leaning out.
BTW if u are still up for a convoy on Sunday give me a bell!
SHould have said about Stickers. Took my car there a few weeks back. No cat, no air pump, RE-A ECU. However he fiddles well, (!) and me car passed no problems!! :)
Makes a good cuppa t to!

Cheers guys,
Gave him a call yesterday and know where I stand now. ;) Real nice guy - had a good chat.
Sadgoth, will try to call you later today.
Gregor
With a lot of fiddling you can get your emissions at idle down to passable levels, but if its post J reg then you should have the CAT in place for the MOT.
Of course you could just mod the hell out of it using loads of diff\' parts and get it re-registered on a \'Q\' plate. Bye bye emissions test :D
OK (retard mode on) whats this Q plate thing then sounds half decent?:god

So, if I was so inclined, I could de-cat my 92 FD? :D

Q letter registration plates are given to kit cars, where there are someparts used from a donor car, but so many parts are new that the old reg plate would be misleading if applied. - basically Q plates signify that the age of the vehicle (i.e. sum of parts) is indeterminate. - downside is that people will assume it\'s a kitcar full of old parts.
When I went to pick up my FD from the importers I went to Dave at TVMOT straight after, I was about 2hrs late, but he waited for me, and passed me.:D good chap!
The emissions test for cars like ours is as follows a car built before aug 01 1995 has to pass under 3.5 % for co emissions cars after this have to get under 0.5%.
my car was just after and was struggling with emissions got down to 1.1% after fiddling from 2.4% but mot tester did a default test instead and hey presto my car now on road again
