Title: Ignition Amplifiers - Which One???
Post by: FD3UK on November 05, 2004, 03:26:25 PM
I have been trawling through various sites looking at ignition amplifiers. HKS Twin Power, Jacobs Rotary Pac, MSD and Crane. Thought I would ask here and see what you guys are using and get some feedback.

Hopefully it will also be useful to anybody else going through the same process.

Thanks

Kevin

depends on what you want it for and how good/dear you want it to be.
HKS do one which several people on here have used.
twin power ignition system here.

or Motec do one that is used by Lemans race cars and all the top oz drag cars. Can be used stand alone so wont need there ecu and has all sorts of data capabilities inc logs to tell you it actually sparked.
CD18 Capacitor Discharge Ignition here.

hope this helps.

Admin help please.
Wont let me log in under Rotarytarts, comes up invailid user name.

cough splutter!! I sort of asked the question to get some feedback as the HKS is expensive, looks like a bargin against the Motec ( I\'m sure the Motec it is very good though).

I am hoping to get some feedback from members that have them fitted on their car.

Do they make a difference? or hide other ignition issues?!

From what I have found on the web/forums is that the HKS just prolongs the spark, it doesnt make it a stronger spark.

I would go for something like the MSD instead.

I have the Jacobs FC 1000 havent installed it yet however, so I cant comment on its usefullness at this point. To me it seemed like the most reasonably priced unit for its performance.

The only other thing I was thinking of doing in this area was to get a second hand FC coil for the leading plugs as from what I\'ve read its supposed to be better than the one in the FD.
