Just to show my stoopidity can anyone confirm where the jacking points are for the FD if it\'s specific to certain areas or otherwise?
Cheers
Si (dunno Jack quite literally (http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contrib/drowned/dork.gif))
Hi Si,
Are you talking about standard jack or trolley jack mate?
Cheers
Donato
primarily the standard ones although i am guna buy a trolley jack so much easier getting both wheels off ground when you can whack it under the diff etc.
In mean time basically hopign to get wheels off to paint callipers etc tomorrow so need it in the air with bog standard jack so where along sills (if thats correct word) etc should i be jacking it given i cant get a good look under with me skirts on (not as in all the lads try & look up up me dress when i bend over :eek: lol)
Cheers
Si
Ok si,
Firstly remember to wear a dark coloured frock or you will get suspicious stains on you (probably not for the first time ;) )
On the standard jack there is a slit in the top piece that touches the underside on of the car. This slit should be placed where the cill meets the body of the car (the cill slots in nicely to the jack) about 10 inches back from the front of the cill, if you havent got a measuring tape then improvise with a bit of your anatomy.. :D (I tryed to take a photo of the bit but its not to clear...)then wind up the jack!
Would be an idea to get a trolley jack and an axle stand as you shouldnt have any part of your body under the car without properly supporting it first..(see below)
Want to buy my 2000kg trolley jack set si?
Its boxed and unused, has 2 axle stands a crawler and various other useful bits.
£25!
DO NOT USE THE MAZDA JACK
thats what i did and completly crushed the jacking point and it went thru :(
after jacking the car down - i had to rip the jack out of the car
Mark my words - use a trolley jack
Here you go matey..

I use the mazda jack all the time, mind you im that low that i cant get a trolley jack underneath without using the standard jack first....:rolleyes:
thats my problem - i tried to jack it up with the mazda one to get a trolley jack under
my poor car didnt stand a chance ...
Grinder!! As i was inspecting the rust on your car (not a surprise that the jack went through it really) i suddenly saw your eye at the side of the picture!
It was like something out the shining!! Hereees Grinderrr! :eek: ;)

On any rusty car! A trolley jack wouldve just made a bigger hole! :D
Looks like grinders car is on its own weight reduction plan:D
I think the Jack may be blamless in thie case.
Will the Jack Be OK for FD\'s with after market skirts?
Si, What paint have you got for your calipers? Was it expensive.
Stu
it looked rather solid when i started !
but not stong enough to hold the weight of the car !
and thats the easy bit to weld - the rest - hummm im sure its lived in the sea for a few yrs of its life

I have aftermarket side skirts and mine is fine...suppose it depends on the sideskirts, my Re-amemyia ones are fine at the front, cant get the standard jack under the back end but it will lift it in the middle which is enough to get the back wheel off the ground if there is a problem...
Caliper paint, you can get it at halfrauds and it isnt expensive, spray or brush on...
cheers for all that will hopefulyl have a fruitful play tomorrow & cheers for offer fly but i see argos do a similar set up & my old dear works there so should get a nice little discount

Calliper paint i did indeed just go for the red stuff from Halords but was a little while back so cant remember how much the lill pot was but not too OTT, paint i\'m using on disc to stop them rusting was a little harder to come by "zinc ally" stuff they use on galvenised doors etc was recommended to me & looking good on one wheel so far to prevent the centres rusting just gota sort the other 3 now......
Ta
Si (off to squash himself under a small crate of stella

)
PS the big ass (not really any bigger thou) trolley jacks they used in bodyshop did usually require a few blocks of wood under the wheels before they\'d fit under skirts but no biggy & they almost fitted without.......
Si
OK well i\'m finally guna do it & paint callipers tomorrow (presuming it dont rain too bad

) Now having had the gratefull (although dont think i was gratefull enough as i didnt offer any rides feel a bit guilty about that in heinseight mate if yer reading...) help of Gary changing my wheels the other week when i was doing the track day the other week i\'m confident with use of the trolley jack under the diff to get the rears in the air but discovered with the sideskirts it\'s impossible to get the standard or trolley jack to the normal jacking points for the front wheels.
So can anyone else confirm where are potential/best/good or otherwise jacking points to get the front wheels in air are (given there\'s not space to get jack under with the skirts

)
Now i recall use of the towing eye worked? Any other definate ideas?
I\'ve blagged some wood to drive onto so i can get jack under the car just wana confirm where i can lift it up against?
Cheers
Si (also gota sort puncture out

)
Don\'t know if I\'ve caught you in time, but don\'t waste your time with the original jack ....... that is there for emergencies only, not to be used at any other time!
When you have the proper jack, DO NOT jack it up on the diff!!!!!! That would be very foolish. Only ever jack the car up on some part of the suspension or sub frames. these are the only places suitable for carrying a 1.5tonne car!
Dont even use the bit that runs along the side of the car. this looks like a chassis member, but it isn\'t! It\'ll fold underneath the jack!
Have fun!;)
what wood be really foolish is jacking it up on diff thingy (er dunno wot it is if i\'m being honest the nice silver thing inbetween the middle of the rear wheels what\'s bad about doing this?) & while pissing about painting callipers taking rear wheels etc off (which required taking hand brake off so i could spin discs to paint them properly) & having driven onto planks of wood under front wheels so i could later get jack under the front to do front wheels (which i didint in end as i ran out of time) was then to release trolley jack having left handbrake off & with a bit of a downhill thing + front wheels being on the end of planks of wood ment i nearly got run over by 1300k of yer finest rotary powered device.....pmsl, in heinseight having escaped with wheel chocks in bag & only a slighly grazed knee having stopped run away car with my jeans knee & raw power that a thread by Gurj wood be proud of..........

Anyway gob shyte/drunk mode off couldn\'t find a pikky of underside of FD but where specifically on the front of car is suitable for jacking?
Thank you please
Si (AKA **** demonstrating shyte techincal no how

)
Diff is bad, because it will crack under the wieght of the car and drop it\'s load of oil, then the next time you race a motorbike (like I do) you will hear a loud screeching noise followed by a bang and your back wheels might lock up ........ so not good!
Front of the car?
If you look directly behind the wheel at what is technically called "the lower arm" you will see something that resembles an "arm". If you follow this to it\'s "elbow" you will see what looks like a rubber bush (a rubbery toilet roll tube). This would be my first choice of jacking piont.
Don\'t forget, you aren\'t capable of jacking the entire front end, do one side at a time. And also, if you can\'t use wheel chocks, a brick will do just as well!
One handy tip is, when you remove a wheel, slide it underneath the raised car while you are working under there. A wheel refurb is easier to live with, than a CRUSHED HEAD!!!!!!!!!
cheers mate have got axel stands too & already do the wheel thing as a cunning plan. Will take photos of my rear another time for you to poke at & show me what to do with it.....

aha just found sum pix of my front end when it was still being worked on any of these vaguely help yer description......?
Si
OK then just to play educating retarda jacking from the rear then as below i take it point A is the bit that is as above not cunning, does that mean B where the wishbone thingy joins is a good bet & the same the other side C for getting them rear wheels skywards?

Cheers
Si
B&C are fine mate. :)
