Title: How much power?
Post by: ScuttleRX on May 25, 2003, 02:14:46 PM
Hi all

Just wondered what sort of power gains are available by fitting the following mods on a 3rd gen:

Full exhaust system
Induction Kit
and a replacement engine management system, like Apex\'i power FC or motec, etc

and how do they affect real world perfomance.

Cheers

Andy

p.s does anyone know what size the speakers are in a \'96 import? i know the ones with storage bins are in the top of the bins (i think), but I dont know where they are in the types with rear seats, or what size they are.

Mine has seats and the speakers are in the parcel shelf - not sure of the size but I could take a pic if it helps.

Andy, depends on what model and year you have.

A good exhaust, air filter and ECU can see very good results. Just check that the fuelling is right.

Doing a complete exhaust system and air filter can make the car run VERY lean. Lean is one thing that all rotary\'s dont like, esp. FD\'s.

A proper ECU map should be done on at least a rolling road, and this will show any tell tale problems.

yeah a pic would be good John, dont worry if its a hassle though, i should be picking the car up sometime this week so i\'ll find out then, just wondered if anyone knew off the top of their head.

Dan, its a 1996 Type RB.

Was planning to do the mods all at once (when ive re-couped some funds!) as I\'ve had warnings before about it running lean when it hasnt been re-mapped, etc

Is 300bhp at the flywheel a realistic figure? assuming parts are good quality

Andy, I think you might get a little more than 300 at the flywheel with those mods.

So long as things are done properly, you will have great fun. :D
