Title: 1st Time RX7 Buyer needs advice
Post by: Icesurf3r on November 02, 2004, 08:18:22 AM
Hi everyone

Currently i own an MX6, which in itself is a great car but due to weekly mileage (Approx 400 per week work and back) i feel its time to get a second car for evenings and weekends, show days etc.

I read with interest the advice offered in this section, and it was extremely helpful.  I have around £10K - £12K to spend and have found a couple of examples i am highly interested in, but would value your opinion on these RX\'s.

Not sure how to put links on here so if someone could pm me i have pics and specs on both cars to send out.

Many thanks and looking forward to chatting with you all in the future.

Thats for starters.  Check out at the top of the forum you have posted this message.  There are some "sticky" threads that will help.  Try to use the search function aswell.  If you still can\'t find the answers you want then post.  We are a friendly bunch and someone will be able to help you.

£10-12k you might want to try http://www.neweraimports.com

Good Luck

Not sure about links, as the extra pics i have are all saved on comp, but here are the specs for both cars.

CAR 1

The car has many ugraded parts.

Has full Digital BLITZ ID boost controller system. (£1000.00)
1x blitz ID power meter (£800.00)
1x Greddy Boost gauge (£150)
Daisy chain DEFI controll unit with 3 gauge playback, (oil pressure, water temp and oil temp) (£1200)
1x Blitz multi function, turbo timer. (£300.00)
1x Blitz sequential blow off valve  (£300.00)
2x blitz twin airfilters (£300.00)
Jasma 4" cat back exhaust system (£800.00)
Uprated rear aero spoiler (£1200.00)
various uprated engine pipes pipes (£200.00)
Engine internals uprated (£1200.00)
18" Volk Racing alloy wheels  (£2500.00)
Full Alpine sound system including V12 amp, tweeter, uprated speaker all round. (£500.00)

This car is  one off special Rx-7 and is probably one of the best available for it\'s age and mileage!

The car has done 44000 miles, the was checked before leaving japan and engine, turbo and gearbox were all tested and passed, the current rx-7 i\'m drive has done 120,000 miles and has never had an engine rebuild, but i have looked after it properly, (oil change every 3000, miles £40.00 at main dealer, less if you do it yourself!)

0-60 5.1sec\'s and capable in this uprated form of around 170mph making it a very affordable supercar!

CAR 2

The car is an RZ edition, which is the top model; it’s just a bit lighter and slightly more horsepower.

This car has been tuned professionally by Blue Impact in Japan - and is powerful. The importer has however set the car up to be driveable for day-to-day use. So you don’t even have to worry about fuel controllers unless you really want to fit one to look nice.

This car is mildly tuned but RX7’s are not very heavy so it goes along way, all the cars with 400-500 bhp and single turbo conversions are a bit of waste of money and petrol!!
Apart from 1st gear the turbo’s don’t really get spinning hard until 4.5-5,000 rpm so its fairly easy to drive around town once your used to the clutch and things like any other fast car, it also has the up rated Limited Slip Diff to help with things.

This car will give 26+ mpg easy on motorway cruising (in 5th the main boost comes in at around 110mph. This car unlike most of the others at this end of the scale is built ultimately to be reliable as I drive it everyday. So it doesn’t break the bank on fuel, which is also very important.

Its literally just been finished but the house thing has just come up so I have to move fast!!

urban /56mph/75mph
17 / 35 / 28 mpg

0-60 4.9 (officially)

BHP in excess of 300 bhp

Clutch, gearbox and limited slip diff system up rated

AS you can see I had the stickers removed the car get respect as it is, if you want to show off the tuner names just pop the bonnet!

Swirl pot, nearly all the hoses are HKS a few are SAMCO
Full HSK  5.25” exhaust as you’d expect its loud, I also have another unused half system that has twin tail pipes as I wasn’t sure which one I would like.

Tein fully adjustable all round.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Full kit all the way round and re-sprayed just 2 weeks ago!
Blown front arches make it stand out from even other tuned RX7’s
Fog light fitted into lights at the back not just stuck on.

The wheels under the front arches are a work of art! I had only ever seen WEDS wheel in Jap tuning magazines these are what set the car off the have fastened with gold bolts.
On the rear are rays light weight race spec items, again I hate to think how much all these wheels may have cost; I was going to replace them bit what’s the point of brining a car all the way from Japan and making it look English.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok i\'ll give it a whirl but doesn\'t look like its worked.

The red rx corresponds to the CAR 1 specs and the blue rx to CAR 2 specs.

both look good, but what\'s going on with the height @ the front  of the blue one??? I notice neither of the cars appears to have had a replacement ECU which would make sense, the first one appears to have a serious bit of boost control but not full stand alone ECU.

for £11-12k you can really have your pick of cars too try:
//www.rotaryimports.com
//www.gt-culture.com
//www.newera.com

for starters! There are several other well respected suppliers of FDs too

Yeah i noticed the height thing with the blue rx, wheels no where near fill the arches!!

So how much would an uprated ECU cost and where would i get one, with having the cash am hoping to get a better deal so hopefully have some cash spare to do a little more modding i.e ecu upgrade, alloy intercooler & oil cooler. Now i may be a little thick here but if i fit an intercooler do i still need a radiator, or does the intercooler replace that. links and ideas on price especially for ecu welcomed and appreciated thanks, and hope to see some of you at some meets real soon!!!

Car 2 concerns me - the steering wheel is upside down.

May just have steering lock on from being parked lol!

But if any of u guys are up in the durham area, which is where one of the cars is, i would appreciate it if maybe we could arrange to meet and go look at the car (obviously dont mind in handing over a few notes to you for your services) as even after reading the posts on what to look for and check etc am not really sure i\'m confident enough to do it myself.

Also if anyone can give me an idea on an uprated ecu and where to take it to get it mapped would be great
:D

I think £550 buys you an Apexi ECU
then you need mapping
You need both the radiator (for engine water coolant)
Intercooler (to reduce temp of air used in combustion - cooler air = more density = more oxgyen = bigger bang = more power
Type R cars have twin oil coolers (behind front spoiler, in front of wheels)

Blue car may look funny due to the steering lock being on and its parked on a slight kerb?

Just my two pennith worth

Pure speculation - but the blue car looks like its been jacked up on the other side.

The way the rear is sunk down, and how high the front lip is...

I saw the red one in flesh yesterday at Liverpool. Must say it did well in the looks department. Although the guages in the pod seemed missing.
