Title: Uprating fuel system
Post by: Tintin on October 29, 2004, 08:35:40 PM
When it comes round to rebuild time I\'m planning to go for a single turbo , obviously I\'m also gonna have to change the ECU and up rate the fuel system

What I\'m hoping to do is do some of the work before hand to spread the cost

ECU wise I\'m gonna go down the tried and tested Apexi route , but I had a thought today , is it possible to programme to maps into it and switch between them depending on how your driving ? or would I just up and lower the boost ( obviously within parameters )

Fuel system wise , I assume I need to up rate both the injectors and the pump , what I want to know is if I change the injectors and or the pump will the car still run fine without changing the ECU first ?

If it is a case of having to do the ECU first , then do the injectors and pump , then do the turbo . I assume I\'d have to get it remapped everytime I change something , in this case would it turn out cheaper to save up and do it all at the same time

forgot to say , I wouldn\'t mind having big power but I don\'t want to have too much power for normal street use , thats why I was wondering about running 2 maps , reasonable power for street and crazy power for track

Definatly change the ECU before the mods because the poor old stock one really will not have a clue whats going on if you change injectors first.

Your only going to be able to run 2 maps if you have a laptop and know how to upload them into the Apexi, then you can keep as many different maps on the laptop and put them in for specific driving duties if you wished.

Already got an RE Amemiya ECU , but its not remappable I\'ve been told , emailed RE to get the mapping details but I\'v had no reply

Using a laptop to run different maps wouldn\'t be a problem , is it an easy job to upload different maps , is it just a case of plug in and choose the required map ?

That would mean I could go for quite a big turbo but run a conservative map for day to day driving and really wind it up for play time :cool

But on the flip side is it a pain to drive in traffic with 400+ bhp ? if its not going to make much difference its probably not worth doing , but I do already have the laptop so it shouldn\'t cost much more apart from initial set up

With the power fc you will need the datalogit to use different maps in conjuction with a laptop.
To go 400+hp you will require to upgrade your secondary injectors, best route would be 1600cc secondaries with a supra pump with upgraded wiring to the pump, you will need an aftermarket rail to use the 1600 injectors also.

you dont need 2 maps.
get your mods done as you wish, get her properly mapped, for what ever size turbo you want. If your turbo is running 1.2 bar for track, or if you get the engine dowled or built properly 2 bar, use the boost controller to turn the power down. You could have 600 bhp on track and 400bhp on raod, would cost nothing as in your list of mods you should have one of these anyway.

I was wondering if that would work gary , so if you alter the boost on a boost controller the ECU would alter the fueling to suit ?

so what other mods would need to be done ?

I\'m thinking that on top of ECU , injectors , pump I would also need to upgrade the intercooler , is there anything else ?

I was thinking of going for a V mount kit for the intercooler and maybe water injection

Any other ideas for the injectors and pump ? and is it worth changing the primary as well as the secondary injectors

Obviously I\'m going to talking quite alot of money for all this but can anyone give me a rough idea how much ?

no, the ecu would know you are running a higher boost and therefore read a differnt part of the map which would be tuned for this psi

Quoteso what other mods would need to be done ?[/B]
done to do what? run a single turbo?

a stand alone EMS is a must without a doubt, injectors, pump and intercooler (over the stock one) are some other musts.

a v-mount is not nesecary and you could save quite a bit using another option. Water injection is nice, but not needed for a properly tuned EMS. (big boost on pump gas is another story/argument. )

You can get the fuel system from KGParts (see sponsor link at the top of the page)

Price is going to depend on what components you chose to use, and how much of the work is going to be done by yourself or paid to be done by someone else. using your head will save you some money though... for instance, if you know you ae going to have your car tuned by a professional, then there is no need for you to buy a datalogit as a *tuner* would already have one.... things like that add up.
Best of luck.

Yeah I\'m planning on going for a single turbo , whats an EMS ?

I\'de love to do as much work myself as possible but didn\'t think this would be practical as the ECU would need remapping after each mod , is it still possible to drive the car before it has been properly mapped ?

Engine Managment System. (fully programable ECU or whatever you would call it over there.)

doing it in stages will cause more tuning needs.
