Just taken delivery and noticed tonight there is no second boost. The car at the min has half a tank of super unleaded in it. Will putting Optimax in it help.
Could it be spark plugs too? Got it booked in for oil and fuel filter change.
Could do with some help, and I am a total novice!!!
Matt
:(
Alrite Matt, Im in exactly the same boat mate!
Mine boosts 10psi on 1st turbo then nothing on second.
Apparently there\'s a maze of vacuum pipes and valves that could be the prob. I did an oil change today and did a visual check of everything I could see while on the ramp, but couldnt see any obvious faults, pipes hanging off :(
Optimax and spark plugs wont help you mate.
Does yours boost ok on 1st turbo?
Its probably something simple, just trying to find it!
First off check that all vacuum hoses are connected and not split or cracked, check charge actuator control rod is not disconnected they have a tendancy to lose the shitty C clip that locates the rod, check your charge releif valve is not stuck open because if it is it will allow the boost to bleed off, make sure the turbo control solenoid is functioning right and pray your secondary turbo is not shot.:wave
Cheers Bin. The problem is that I am a complete novice when it comes to mechanics. I understand that if I take the plenum off (this being the alloy cover behind the alternator??, I can see more of the vacumn pipes and then the actutators. Where is the charge relief valve in laymans terms!!!????
Thanks
Matt

I also had a similar problem a few years back. The inlet gasket was replaced, and the actuator rod to the 2 turbo gate was done up too tightly. Went out for a spin, fine trundling along at 40, came to a dual carridge way - booted it......good acceleration.....then slowed for a roundabout, then little power after that......
On closer inspection, the end of the actuator rod should have (I think) a split pin to stop it from coming away. On mine, when it had a rebiuld, the builders must have put on a nut and bolt, and this was tightened too tightly. Hence the first hard drive was OK....the 2nd turbo was allowed to come online in the right way, but then the actuator stayed open \'cos it couldn\'t return, which meant that the gasses were bypassing the 1st turbo (so not spooling), and hence no power. I simply loosened the nut/bolt a touch, and everything was fine after that. Not saying this is your problem (unlikely), but it can sometime be the simple things that cause the biggest of headaches!
The inlet gasket has been replaced at Motormall and Adam says that second boost was fine when he drove it. Perhaps since I have taken delivery the actuator has done exactly the same thing. Seems logical I think but can you explain how to fix in laymanns terms???
Cheers
Matt
Matt,
Was sat here reading your last post, thinking thats looks familiar....I wrote it! See you cut it from another post.
First up....if you\'ve only just taken delivery of it (this was through Newera, wasn\'t it?) - shouldn\'t they sort it out rather than you having crawl around under it? Their adverts say it is sold with a years warrenty?? We were considering this (plus another) from Newera a few months ago, but eventually went for another one.
Almost 100% sure it won\'t be what I was describing though. What I was describing, was my own fault, and would only happen once, then the car looses power. Hard to explain, really.
Have a look, if you haven\'t already, at this page:
http://www.autosportracetech.com/RX-7/TurboTroubleshooting.htm
Under the car there is a brass coloured thing called the turbo pre control (about half way down the page above - called actuator (turbo control) on the page). This is just forward from the downpipe. It has a small length of metal rod coming out going to the turbo pack. As the revs rise, this actuator moves the arm to open a gate inside the turbo housing allowing some of the gasses that were originally used to spool the 1st turbo to spin the 2nd turbo, to reduce the lag effect. As the revs drop, this gate then closes. The end of the rod connects to the gate using a split pin or circlip. I have heard that this can fall off, so you are then left with no control to operate the 2nd turbo (I think). Therefore no boost on the 2ndary. Mine had a nut + bolt already in place (guess the circlip had already been lost!). After doing the manifold gasket, I put the N+B back on, and tightened it up, not realising that it should be quite loose. Went out, boosted through both turbos, gate opened, but stayed open, cos the nut was too tight. Hence probably not your problem.
But, it might be that you have lost the circlip to this actuator arm?
Then there is the charge control solenoid/actuator (diagram below the turbo control actuator. This helps the transition of the 1st to 2nd turbo, so if you\'ve got a loose pipe, or even the actuator itself is knackered, you\'re going to see problems.
Horrendously complicated...!!! Get it sorted on the warrenty is the easiest option!!!!
Good luck!!
Thanks for your reply Andrew. Prob should have added on the cut from your post your name to avoid confusion!!! Still learning with bulletin boards like RX7\'s!!:)
Have spoken to Miguel and Adam at Motormall and Miguel has been superb about it. I haven\'t had a warranty on the car due to Motormall (who would repair) being a good 400 miles from me. Cost of transport would be £500 there and back so wasn\'t a economical option. Miguel has told me to get the car booked in at Pip\'s only 60 miles away, and then get Pip to invoice Newera for any work that needs to be done to get the car up to par.
From what I\'ve seen so far from Newera, despite a few niggles, I\'ve been really impressed. At least with the 2nd turbo not spooling up for the past few days I have at least still got my licence!
Matt
Great to hear that a company actually appears to care about their customers! Big thumbs up to Miguel and Co. if this is the way he treats all his customers!:)
Hope you get it sorted asap! :)
(Grinning like a Cheshire cat)
I\'ve just booted the car from 1st gear all the way through and I have just had my first experience of full boost throughout the rev range. Up till when I bottled in 3rd at 100mph. Shit this car is quick!!:rollin
Up till now the car has not had 2nd boost say when booting it from 3rd gear 45mph 2500-3000rpm and when taking it past 4500rpm and changing gear I can hear a long drawn out sound from the dump valve. Not a psh more Psssssshhhhhhh. All vacumn pipes look good and the ones I can see are secure.
Good news but has anyone else had intermittent probs with the 2nd turbo and does anyone know any likely causes.
When it works tho this car is the quickest thing I have ever driven!!!
it is him top man i had a similar boost (overboosting) niggle which turned out to be ECU which Miguel didnt hesitate to refund replacement of
Si
Yeah, I\'m really pleased like with his responses. He could have said well you didn\'t buy a warranty and thats the risk you take, but he hasn\'t done. Plus we don\'t know yet how expensive it could be to put right. I went with Newera because of people\'s recommendations, something I think that is very important, and I can now see why people think highly of him and the company. The car is beautiful and he is more than happy to help you out if you encounter any problems/issues like I have. Will defo use them again if my missus will let me!
Matt
Have you been to wgt engineering then matey???
No not been yet. It\'s booked in for Tues.
At work at min and I want to get out and drive the thing!!! It\'s a dry day today, so gives me chance for a heavy right foot!
My missus took it out last night as she is insured on it aswell and she loves it. Looks kinda cool seeing a fit (in my opinion of course!) lass sitting in the drivers seat of an RX. Have we got any ladies on here who own one?
Piccies???:p
My missus cannot drive the rx as its a twin plate clutch jobbie making it hard to control!!!
Also i feel alittle too powerful for her too, why because when i had the escort cosworth she hit the central reservation with it as too powerful so you see why.:(
Pic in my avatar is of her:)
My names on the registration document, does that meant my wife doesn\'t own it?!!:D
(Hope she\'s not reading this.....;) )
MINES intermittant so i would like to know some likely causes
Hey Gurj, if your missus can\'t drive yours she can always drive mine!!;)
Andrew it doesn\'t matter if her name is on it or not she can still drive it, legally she owns you not the car!!!!:rollin
At least thats what we let em think. :p
Dean,
From the sound advice have had from many people it could be a number of problems. Dodgy solenoids/actuator rods sticking or loose hoses, possibly even ECU faults.
As soon as have had the car in at Pip\'s and he has had the car looked at I will post what he says. You never know we might be lucky and have the same fault!
