Title: Power FC
Post by: wiggy on October 28, 2004, 07:42:25 PM
Right, I\'ve bit the bullet and ordered one

Now, I shall be fitting it as soon as it lands. Who do I let loose on tuning it though?

Pip seems the likely candidate with him being the closest???

I got it now so I can build on it. The plans are forming for the car and hopefully by next spring she\'ll be getting there.

I have also ordered the commander too

Now, where to buy the datalogic from? anyone got any good contacts for this?

Cheers

Yes Pip would be your best choice that far north.

As for the Data logit, buy it from their site. Cant go wrong then.

I\'ve done exactly the same thing too ! Sent from Japan Today :) so hopefully it will be here in about 1 week ! I\'m definately booking it in with pip for the setup, but may have to wait till end of next month to do it (afford it, lol).

It will give me more options for the engine setup, and help me keep a close eye on my car ! Its mainly standard, but that will change (again cash dependent, lol)

I have an  Apexi Power FC too, is it a no-no to adjust the boost settings myself then?  I mean just raise the boost a little from 0.8 to 0.9:D
Also , is the overheat warning light (faulty sensor) supposed to flash occasionaly when driving like mine does?

cheers,

Two quick questions Gents :

a) What ball-park figure did you pay for your Power FCs UK landed? Is that with the Commander too ?

b) Can you have an MOT setting for the Power FC, therefore doing away with the cat ?

OK, maybe that\'s three questions......

Cheers.

I\'ve been looking around since I bught the car back in May for the best deal and I found it through Greenline in Auz. All in with shipping, paypal fee and an Apexi rad cap I paid £470ish complete with commander :D

I have had words with them about avoiding duty in my usualy ways and they are more than willing to help out, so hopefully when it lands that will be it :D

As I\'v previously said I use a few methods to avoid duty and the\'ve worked so far importing turbos, front mounts etc for previous cars so I can\'t see why it won\'t work this time.

Speak to Jason at greenline enquiries@greenline.jp

I told him to expect a fair few orders if mine works out as I would be singing their praises on here ;)

A mention of my name would be good too, might get a discount on my Apexi front mount then ....hehehe

Cheers

No worries Wiggy, thanks.

Probably won\'t be investing heavily until next year, and then I want to go quite mad with exhaust, cooler, induction, maybe extra injectors, and of course PFC. We\'ll see !

Blimey, i thought i got mine cheap. It was 540 all in from japan with free commander. how much was the postage from Oz ?

I think from a past thread it was about 200 quid for pip to install and tune. I suppose it depends what is already done to it !

Its probably easier to find a friend mot tester, wount want to run it lean just to get it through the mot, even if that was possible !

£284.94 for Pip to tune mine last Tuesday, nearly dropped through floor

Time to learn how to do it myself i think...

I need to get hold of the datalogic for when it arrives. Me and my m8 used to do his GT4 with a Power FC using the datalogic so I can\'t see the REX being that hard.

We managed to get his 4 over 400bhp without causing any probs so I recon a mess about with it and I\'ll soon have it sussed.

I also mapped my own car using the DTA P8PRO myself  from scratch as no one had used it before on the GT4 (3SGTE). They are all the same basically but learning the optimum for the rotary will be the biggest challenge me thinks.

I am also on the look out for a decent wideband setup, I used the Bosch one on the 4 with some DIY control unit from Auz. Anyone got any better suggestions for the rex? This way you can get the self learn mode up and running to sort out the fuelling ;)

Its a shame more people won\'t share their maps with the FC. I can understand why they don\'t but it seems a bit silly? If you visist the DTA forum everyone on their is more than willing to save and send out maps for people to try.

Regards

Power FC, commander and Apexi rad cap all arrived today. Took less than 5 days for delivery and no customs charges :D

All this lot for less than £470....BARGAIN!!!!!

I\'m a happy camper now.....My speedo converter came as well so no more kmh reading for me....yipeeeee

I\'ve got mine too, but unfortunately i had some tax to pay on it (even though it was listed as worth 50 quid). Cost £25 to retreve, had to pay for parcel farce to move it from customs ! Is you manual in english or japanise. Was going to ask on the club of anywhere i can download the english version. Its getting done with pip, but would like to read up on it first and at least understand something about it ! Think mines cost me 560 from japan. Looks like i\'ll be looking at buying stuff from oz in the future !

Do you need a boost controller once you have a powerFC?
Title: Power FC
Post by: wiggy on November 05, 2004, 03:19:04 PM
You do if you want to run more boost. If your happy with it as it is you can leave it alone.

I plan to get mine in this weekend and do the idle test. This sets the idle to be less lumpy.

Then I\'ll leave it till over the winter and get it Mapped by Pip after Christmas. With my car being pretty much std I don\'t see the need to map it appart from saving me a few MPG, which won\'t be worth the £300+ mapping charge.

Single turbo, better intercooler, fuelling after Chrimbo :D

It amazes me how many people with the PFC have idling problems, I let the PFC go through its learning process as per instructions. I then checked the TPS voltages were in spec. set the hard idle to spot on 750 RPM and my idle stays constant and smooth all the time.

You can change the boost level using PFC, it has two setting levels built in. You can change between the two using the commander You can also change the values if you wish, I would not recommend changing the higher boost setting (without fueling mods and a 3 Bar map sensor) but you could decrease the lower one to make wet weather driving a bit safer If you\'ve got lead boots on ;)

I\'ve not got a great knowledge of tuning, so to be honest it will need to go to pip for the initial setup. At least i can build from there. I\'ll have to give him a ring on monday and get a quote for the fitting. Mines a standard one with after market induction and exhaust. It has been rebuilt by pip (don\'t think any porting was done to it at the time, shame really). It needs the standard vacuumm pill fitting anyway because it has only done about 2000 miles since rebuild. Would be nice to have a lower boost setup for wet conditions, especially with the 225 tyres on the back !

I felt it was a good place to start, so that when i uprate stuff i have the appropriate setup every time.

Maybe my goal is to try and have it setup as a single in the next 12 months ! But i have to start somewhere.

Cheers

The PFC is a straight swop for the standard ECU except for a bit of cutting on the lower mounting bracket to be able to plug in commander. Car will run using PFC straight out of the box. All depends what you feel comfortable with.

With all these new PFC\'s being fitted the next big thing on the forum will be "Why is my A/C is not working"

Kev

P.S. bit confused by your fitting vacuum pill satement

Post by: wiggy on November 05, 2004, 05:59:05 PM
So the PFC doesn\'t allow you to operate the A/C??

Bastard I was actually planning on keeping the A/C this time round as well as I usually remove it to save some weight and remove the drain from the engine when on....

Si , Did you do the idle setup when you fitted it as It says you have to put on certain things like the A/C so the PFC can set itself

Oh I thought everyone knew this one. Aircon does work with PFC, but seems to give allsorts of problems. Mine works put only on fan position 1. Loads of threads on this subject on various RX7 forums.

I would just like to say that I have a UK model FD with air con as standard, and the Apexi has had no ill effect on it what so ever. ;)

It\'s the US Boys that have all the bother with air con, not the right hookers.

well my Power FC is now in and I\'ve just drove 30miles no probs. Followed the idle setup proceedure and the air con seems to work fine. The idle of the car is miles better now as well. Before it would almost cut out after a run if you came off the throttle too quickly. Now it doesn\'t :D

Plus I can now see whats happening with all the bits in the engine such as water temp. Fan kicks in about 94c and drops to about 89-90 then does it again. I noticed the engine light flash a couple of times on the way home though when nailing it. Hav to look into that....

Roll on the next mod :D :D :D :D

Sorry but don\'t be to certain the duty and the VAT doesn\'t catch up with you, we have brought a few Turbo kits in from Aus and the cost us £500 with the freight being paid that end, we thought we had got away with one Kit but it turns out they have 6 months to bill you.

With just two weeks to go on one kit before the 6 months was up, we recently had a £623 bill  land on the mat !!

I know what your saying as I\'ve been stung myself before but only with FedEx. Parcel force who delivered the package always ask for Duty when they deliver, if you don\'t pay you don\'t get the item. They didn\'t ask so I didn\'t pay :D

I think it works different for business though as you are not allowed anything duty free coming into the country. Private individuals are allowed a certain amount duty free (hence marking down the value of goods) The Current UK limit is £100 IIRC. Also marking them as a gift often works, again for individuals not business. Greenline send the invoice seperate and don\'t put any value on the package and theres a nice tick in the box marked gift ;)  Jason at Greenline is a STAR and probably saved me £100+ :D

Christ that is an awesome price! All I\'ve got to do now is see if I can raise the necessary $$. The import duty thing is a fookin joke. I had a pair of \'99 spec front lights shipped from the US. They cost roughly £100 and I ended up paying over £50 tax.....theiving c*nts. They charged me extra duty because they decided they were "electrical goods" and also charged me duty on the bastard shipping! Anyway, I\'d love to get something back from the money grabbing assholes and sneaking a PFC into the country seems like a good way to do it!

Anyone out there running a Haltech or Microtech ? A mate of mine is going to Oz for 5 weeks over Xmas and he knows their headquarters. Plan was to buy one and map it myself on my laptop, sounds dangerous enough. I know I should search the forum and I will if no-one comes back to me, but I haven\'t had the time, what with that damn Topshift site addiction...... !

Mine\'s nearly stock, the PFC makes a vast difference.  Car is quicker, smoother, more economical, + everything\'s in place, ready for the upgrades;)

So whats the sequence of events i have to perform once ive plugged it in ? I\'ve got a good idea what to do and phil explained what he did on monday night, but my memory is not very good and need to just check ! I\'m hopefully going to put it in on sunday, was going to be saturday, but hopefully going to watch the track day !

plug it in and start her up, then follow the idle set up

Leave car running for 10 mins without touching anything
After 10 mins switch the heated rear screen on and leave that for 10 mins, then finally put the A/C on full blask for the last 10 mins. JOB DONE!!!

Mine ran miles better after fitting it, no more popping and  farting and idle much smoother.

Obviously didn\'t get long to test it due to the animal magnatism between lamp post and car

By the way, my baby has just been loaded onto a trailer and gone....will i ever see her again?????

Who knows :(

To make it fair though I am probably going to stick it all on eBay, unless I get good offers on the stuff I have

I need to wait for the insurance to get back to me before I start offering things though, I have a list of all the gear I have going if the cars a gonna,

Do i need to be progressive with the car for the first so many miles so it can learn the engine fueling curve, or does it do that when i plugged it in ???

What time are you guys meeting up at Oulton Park (or however you spell it). Will come down if its nice ! Even just to see you guys thrashing round the track !

Cheers
