Anyone know of insurance companies that will give you a good price on import RX7\'s and actually know what they are?
Cheers

Yeh im 20, ive had a few quotea on a 1994 rx7 and it was £ 895.00 TPFT, 7000 miles a year insured for 4.5k Which i think is very reasonable, i thought it must have been wrong but i tried a 1996 one and got quoted £1000 but i still don\'t think the quotes are right.
Cheers

This thread is upsetting me. If I had any of those prices id bite someones hand off on the deal.
I\'m hoping for a huge reduction in last years premium then if i shop around in january if those prices are anything to go by
I\'m 24 with 5 years NCB and pay £663 thro Admiral for fully comp on my jap beastee :D
I\'d personally avoid it, but if I went with their accelerator scheme it was £586 fully comp for a Jap import!! :D
If you can find a UK model, I got quote £420 TPFT or £499 fully comp thro Elephant (same group) - Bargain! :)
hello, this is my first post on here, and im sorry about resurrecting this old post, and this is kinda a long story too, but im getting really confused about the insurance on an fd that im wanting to buy!
the thing is, like the guys on this thread, im 23 and have been getting a quote through elephant (am insured with admiral at the moment!) and i was wondering which model of rx7 you have been putting down cos the quotes vary from 700 quid to 1800 quid! if you choose 1989 onwards twin turbo it says its a 2354cc engine and insurance is about 850 quid, if you choose 1990 on it is 2616cc engine and insurance is 1800 quid, if you choose 1992 on turbo which is down as 2616cc aswell insurance is 711 quid! whats going on? all of these quotes are for a 1994 car worth six grand! i dont understand, and the guy who i spoke to on the phone didnt want to know and just kept saying that i needed to find out which size engine the car had, but they only made one size in 1994 didnt they? i just dont want to not be able to afford the insurance, or worse, but it and find that im not insured if something goes awry!
sorry for this being so long winded, but i need to know this stuff before i can go and get me an rx7!
cheers!
matt.wild,
what\'s bad about accelerator schemes? esp seeing as its a cheaper quote?

My first post too :)
I\'m interested in pretty much the same thing as the poster above (prettyboy) - I\'m 21 and looking (longingly) at an RX7 so have been phoning round compainies (mainly listed on this forum).
I did actually get a decent quote from my current insurer (Chris Knott) - ~£1200 TPFT up from £800 on my current group 13 Rover.
However, to get that quote I had to spend ages on the phone finding a model that vaguly resembled what I\'m planning on trying to buy. The quote ended up being for a 96 UK registered automatic FD (at least I guess it was an FD).
When I got a quote for an import, it was more to the tune of £5000. Any input would be appreciated.
i guess thats vaguely the point i was getting at, how can i be sure which quote is for the fd? could it just be that elephant, admiral etc have their system wrong so you can insure earlier models up to 2000? and would it be them or me at fault for the fact that they might insure me for the wrong thing? and would a gen2 really be a thousand pounds a year cheaper to insure than a gen 3, even if both were (although i know technically vey unlikely) the same year and the same value?
this is so annoying!
elephant wouldn\'t insure me until i was over 21, i phoned them and they confirmed this. The best quote i got was £3000 fully comp! who is it your getting the TPFT quotes from?
right, so after doing some more clicking around, can anyone tell me if the generally recognised displacement for the fd engine is 2354cc? cos thats pretty much all i need to know for the elephant quote! if i can confidently tell them that that is the enging size and no 2616cc then i\'ll be sorted!
According to information I\'ve found on rx7club.com the FCs were produced uptil 92, so anything on the insurer\'s system after that should be an FD, also, all the FDs were twin turbo and from the few compainies I\'ve phoned they\'ve usually had that down.
However, the site I got the information from is US based, so I\'m not sure if the years of manufacture would vary - does anyone know for sure when the UK spec RX7s were produced and sold?

I got quoted both those numbers for various years too - I thought it was 2616.
^ and jap spec cos thats what im after!
cheers!
i thought it was 2616 too, but on tesco and first alternative, the only options are for 2354! for any year!
the first quote i got was for 820 quid, i was well pleased, but now this is doin my head in and im worried that getting insurance is going to be a problem and stop me getting one! which would be mighty infuriating!
the engine size should be 2600! ive seen what you are talking about though you tell them the year of the car then when you say the engine size is 2600 they say we only have 2300 showing here and the it becomes a pain in the ass trying to convince them that it a 2600.
Opps, I should have looked harder - there is good information on the years in the stickies here: http://www.mazdarotaryclub.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=40
However, the real question is still not what the cars actually are, but what the insurance companies think the cars are.
