I have been reading today about how to do a coolant flush on a 93 fd
one part that alarmed me slightly was the "never use red coolant it is seriously harmful to the seals in the rotary engine" I think I might have added some \'red\' coolant to the system a couple of weeks ago. didnt take much notice of the colour at the time...!
I am hope fully gonna do an engine flush this weekend what coolant shoud I be using...
it has been suggested that ethylene glycol is to be used not this \'red stuff\' ... what colour is it... green?...
any advice?...
yes its the green coolant,
there is also a product from royal purple that will help your car run cooler, add it to coolant, purple ice.

Drain it bud and start again.ASAP There was a post on here i think about how to do it.

cheers guys,
just got a quote of 110 quid plus VAT to get it done at a mazda place...
hmmm might try somewhere else...
is it ok to drive the car with the red stuff in it, I only put in a small bottle to top it up a bit.... will get it done as soon as like but for a couple of days will it be ok?...
can I get the coolant I want from hlafords or somewhere?...
will give Nippon a call..
What sort of seals did spazda use??
It just seems that everything effects them in some way. You can\'t use synthetic oil as if makes them shrink, you can\'t use red cooland coz it damages them. I really can\'t get my head round why they would make the seals any different to any other car, they do the same job after all??
I always used Toyota Red coolant in my GT4\'s in the past as its supposed to be spot on stuff and great for keeping alloy in check unlike some coolants that can corrode.
Whats contained in this coolant that damages the seals on a rotary engine?? What are the seals made of, bog roll??
Cheers
ok sorted...
will get it into rotechniuks on monday to get it done..
47 quid all in... dont have time to do it myself... as I am working away all weekend.......
Is it ok to use Bluecol by the way? I\'ve got a couple of spare bottles and I\'m going to be doing a hose change this weekend.
It\'s ethylene glycol based according to the bottle.
Erk, i put some 4 Life coolant that i bought off demontweeks in my car a couple of months ago, it was red but it said it was ethy-glycol based on the bottle, ive flushed the system since then tho.
