Title: Water Leak
Post by: Gerry M on October 25, 2004, 05:17:22 PM
Hi all

After finally getting my bumper back I thought I\'d go for a run , after checking coolant etc cos car had been stitting for a while. When I came home I turned the engine off leaving the turbo timer too shut down engine. Popped bonnet & noticed steam coming from around  battery area, checked under car & noticed coolant dripping from undertray followed by gurgling noises, then whilst trying to find out where its coming from the AST splits at the join & covers me with coolant!.

I\'m guessing the seals have gone which is why the coolant was pressurised enought to split the tank??

It might have just split under normal pressure.

look on the bright side and all that :)

The AST is a known problem with 3rd gens. Lots of people make a replacement. (WGT Northwich).
In my experience, when the seals go, the coolant discharges out of an overflow pipe near the left hand side of the radiator.
I wouldnt panic just yet. Replace AST 1st.
