Title: what to look out for in a FD?
Post by: honkie on October 25, 2004, 01:31:18 PM
Hi all,

I am about to purchase a FD as my new toy. Can someone please advise on what to look out? Hate to have to spend 1/2 the purchase price on getting the thing to run.

The potential car I am looking at is a 97 make grey import from Japan. The owner has no idea what the real spec is but it could be the 265hp version.

cheers,
Ernie

have root around in the section on purchasing mate  you\'ll find lots in there.

In the 3rd gen section you should be able to find model info if you have a search.

Basically if it\'s jap and 3rd gen then it will be either 265 or 280 bhp as standard.

It would be advisable to buy one with a recent rebuild from a reputable company to mate.

hi all,

lots of stuff to look at...its great. Good to see a forum that has lots of unbiased info for a new guy like me.

Did I say that in Hong Kong is very difficult to find a good condition FD? And just as difficult to find anyone to work or repair one when needed? Not sure how to solve the problem but i gues sif I search for the materials from overseas like UK or the US, the the mechanic can try to figure it out.

What would you guys recomend for the following?

1. Quieter exhaust
2. Quieter recirculating dump valve
3. Softer springs and shocks

cheers,
Ernie

hong kong traffic is gonna be a KILLER on the FD.  There should be rotary mechanics in HK but if not you may just have to grab an engine from Japan.

If you\'re willing to have a crack at it yourself you\'ll find loads of info and support here.

in answer to your questions:
Stock exhaust is pretty quiet, or you could try the racing beat one which I think is also pretty quiet
the stock recirc dump valve is virtually silent if you have a stock airbox
can;t help on the suspension I\'m afraid though - ain;t got to that on mine yet!!
