Hi I don’t know if anyone as done this before but I have managed to get a discount on a group buy for 5 people, so iam looking for 4 people:) see if they want to grab a bargain carbon bonnet.
Carbon Styled one piece UV Protected, high gloss bonnet. The Edges are rolled carbon and the fit is really good. How do I know this you ask, well my mate has got one on his FD from the same guy but he paid about £900 for his.
So if I get for others we can have them for £600 each, that’s all import duty, handling fees ect. all you will have to pay is p&p from my house.
I am doing this so I can simply get the bonnet I want as cheap as I can. £600 is half the cost I can find over here.
Will have them in about 3 weeks
Let me know
:D
its only half the cost as its not all crabon fibre, it probably weighs as much as you stock bonnet. It will be a layer of carbon with a fibre glass body, if asked for a group buy you could get them over here for that.
Is it complete carbon - skin and skeleton or is the skeleton fibreglass with carbon skin as Gary suggested.
SKIN & SKELETON ARE CARBON FIBRE
I will get back with the weight
Anyone intereseted?
Like i said half the cost of some over here and quality is fantastic, will sort out that anyone can view my mates if they like
can you only get the scoot style bonnets
yer its just a group discount thing on 5 ov these style
Guy said he would do a group buy on any style carbon bonnett, he does evo style, plain thats it.
if anyone interested let me know i will see what price we can get
can you put up some pictures of the other styles you can get m8.
toon i will post pics soon as i get them.
I have been offered the same buy 5 deal but on a fibreglass skeleton with full carbon covering, which i am informed is the exact same quality as the above just heaver, £500 all in.
Some pics of your mates good fitting one would be a good idea.
Not enough in the pot at the minute otherwise I\'d be in.
Heard these hoods reduce the underhood temperature by quite a bit too :) :cool
Will one of these do a lot of good for temperature spikes when you switch off?
I switch off the engine with water temp at a nice comfortable 85 degrees C. I can then watch this go up to 100 or more after switch off....
Also, anyone have rain type issues with these - what\'s the verdict on that front - I want a vented bonnet but can;t seem to find an answer to these questions....
I doubt it will help with the water temperatures to be honest, thats down to heatsoak.
Essentially it happens because the coolant stops moving around the engine and the heat gets \'soaked\' into the block - kind of like how a heatsink works on the PC - the heat will always transfer to a larger area.
It doesn\'t cause any harm due to it being a slow process, if you panicked and threw water over your engine to cool it then it would obviously be bad. ;)
WIll post as many pics as i can over weekend as i am away at moment.
Any more questions please PM I have 2 people who def want one so just 2 more to find
I have a scoot bonnet on mine and the temp will go up to 100+ when the ignition is turned of as ds2000 said.
It mainly helps to vent hot air from the engine when moving due to the increased air flow thru the bay - Althought theres always debates as to how effective it actually is!
Pm\'d you on the buy...
J.
Sorry it has taken so long for me to reply been really busy with work.
Ok I have two guys that want in so last chance anyone else.
I will have a better idea on price when i have the numbers.
Possible i can have 3 other styles, waiting for full spec prices before i post pics.
:D
RIGHT these are going to be ordered as soon as i know the excat number of people that want the scoot style, the more say yes the cheaper they are are.
So people, please pm me this weekend confirm you def want one, i will get full price sorted and get them in early new year...
Do these come with rain blocking trays? I\'ve been after and AD9 style bonnet if this could be bundled in then that would be great.
Are these uk sourced?
Hi No rain tray and they are from the US.
PM me some pics of the style you want and i will see what i can do
The bonnet I would like (I have to add that for no other reason than looks!) would be the Rotary extreme N1 bonnet. This, I think is a copy of the AD9. Even if it\'s not then it\'s pretty cool!
http://www.rotaryextreme.com/n1.html
I was considering importing one myself given the pound/dollar exchange rate at the mo if you annot get one.
Does anyone have any experince of rotary extreme in the US and the quality of it\'s hoods (sic)?
Mike
how much will postage be thou surely wont be that much cheaper than the real thing in UK & that\'s presuming you avoid tax?
Just playing devilsa advocate & if you wana bring me some goodies with anything you order i\'ll repent

lol
Si
The more you buy the cheaper you get them for and they are top quality as My friend has one.

Hi, as this thread was started in 2004, i guess it might have finished...could be wrong though
Since this is an old thread, which isn\'t likely to be resurected, I\'ll post here to tell the facts:
I got a Scoot carbon bonnet from an RX-7 parts supplier in the States in 2001... Assuming it\'s the same supplier, I have to say, the quality was pretty poor! :Grrr
Hinge and bonnet catch screws go into tapped FRP (No metal to screw into!!) so it\'s a dangerous design!
So I had to fit bonnet pins for safety - also the sides lifted up like Dumbo\'s ears at speed if no clips were used!
Even with bonnet pins, when I drive the car at speed, I see the centre hump wobble!
A few years after I\'d fitted mine, I met Koseki San, who runs Scoot in Japan whilst filming Fast East & Extreme.
I showed him my copy Scoot Carbon bonnet - which made him laugh... I then looked closely at his originals. Like chalk and cheese really!
The originals have proper rain channels to take water away from the top of the engine (Which the copy ones don\'t) and are strongly made so they don\'t even need bonnet pins. This design was made by Scoot for Koseki San\'s 200 mph + run in his red RX-7 some 8 years ago in New Zealand.
As my rex rarely sees rain and lives in a Garage, I can live with it... The bonnet cost me well over £1,000 when I originally bought it and shipped it to Japan - but if you ask me, it\'s the worst quality item by far on my Rex.
Funny enough, all the other parts on my Rex are genuine and made in Japan... I\'ve never bought another copy part again since.
End of rant! :Hammer
Miguel.
