Title: Loads of smoke!!
Post by: Mark C on October 18, 2004, 07:10:42 PM
As my car (92 FD) hadn\'t been started in nearly a week i thought i had better give it a bit of a run on sunday to keep the battery charged, things moving etc. Any way long story short after much turning over and nearly starting, pulling fuses etc it started but was spewing out plumes of thick white stinky smoke and i mean !*@? LOADS (James Bond has NOTHING on my smoke screen) i had to take it out of the garage and open all the doors and window as i could hardly see across it, and it defo wasn\'t the normal condensation type "smoke" you get first thing on a damp morning this stank and hung around for ages. It carried on like this for around 5 mins, took it out for a run and all seemed fine no more smoke. Was it missing, not firing on on rotor or something?? It seemed to sound normal. Confused.

Is this normal after they have been standing a while (less than a week) ?

It was serviced maybe a month or so ago and the last time it was driven was home from passing it\'s mot so i would have to assume everthing is ok. Just a bit unnerving thats all and am after some kind of reassurance.

Usual, sounds like it was flooded - you got lucky starting it :)

From experience they chuck out *huge* amounts of thick white smoke when they start after flooding.

Ok thats not too bad then, thought i may have flooded it hence the pulling fuses bit but are they usually that hard to start after standing for about a week. Thats what worried me the most as it always starts first turn as i use it nearly every day. Time for a new battery maybe?
