Title: Car won\'t start
Post by: notf1ack on October 18, 2004, 06:21:30 PM
The symptons are:

car hasn\'t been driven since Saturday.  I went to start it this morning and it won\'t start.  When I turn the key I can hear the rotors spinning but it won\'t start.

After a few minutes of spinning I can smell fuel and the engine is now flooded.

Any suggestions please?

what year? 2nd gens have been known to flood easily when shut off. an easy fix without getting under the hood is to disconect the silver relay under the dash to stop the injectors from squirting, then crank the car till it fires and quickly plug relay back in.
3rd gen easy fix is to put the gas peddal to the floor to stop the injectors from squirting while cranking. if either of these dont fix it then you will need to physicly unflood. take out the lower plugs and diable injectors either by EGI/pump fuse and crank the car with plugs out of the block. let it turn over a bunch of times and replace plugs with new or cleaned plugs. try starting it again. the motor will not unflood itself....

Thanks for all the advice. :)

The car\'s a 3rd gen and the foot to the floor seemed to work.  I think my boyfriend got some sort of sadistic pleasure from trying that one!  Until he got into his car to move it that is...  He\'d parked it behind mine and hadn\'t moved it first so it was a little full of smoke.

I\'ve got it booked in for  a service and checkup on saturday so will get it looked at properly then. I just hope that I\'m not going to get that horrible word \'rebuild\' mentioned.  I have a nasty feeling I will.  Lots of things seem to have started happening since I booked the service.

The service may help,
A change of spark plugs can often do the trick.
If the plugs get a bit fowled or carboned up sometimes the car may not start.
Kind regards
