RX8 Rally car issues
« on: June 06, 2019, 06:06:05 AM »
Morning all,

New to the forum but brought here by Clive as the place to be!

I have recently built an RX8 rally car - i will post build thread at some point soon but in the interim can you please view the in car footage below and provide any information as to what you think may be causing the engine to cut out and have intermittent low rev limit.

Additional information

Coils D585
Leads - Unknown - advised upgraded with coils
Plugs - Unknown - changing today
Bridgeported
Running Mazda standard ECU
No errors found on ODB immediately after event - i will check again today and update accordingly

Last but not least thank you for having me!

Kind regards

Gavin

I just got in from nightshift...ill watch vid later but ill go out on a limb and say loose engine earth. Possible on top of engine. Check there tight...all the sensor earth down here and make sure chassis to engine earth good or put 1 in.

Gavin,

Jon (boosted) is your man on stuff like this, what he don't know aint worth knowing. He fixes problems for a living.

Outside of that, welcome to the forum.

Looking at vid im pretty convinced your either 1 loosing an earth connection for engine sensors or 1 of the live feeds to the engine sensors.
Looks like a lot of fun..
Has the car been rewired ? Or standard loom? And any particular revs your loosing throttle?
Have you got  the engine check light still connected? If so does it come on and then go off?
Thing is a intermitent cut will throw a code but when power earth or sensor signal restored the code is reset.

Hi, that looks like a lot of fun  :13:

Jon's the expert on electrical stuff and I'd concur that it's likely to be a bad earth or loose/poor ECU or engine sensor connection somewhere. Finding it might be another issue!
