MX-5 NC with RX-8 231 Engine
« on: September 01, 2018, 01:26:46 PM »
Afternoon all.
Thought I'd start a project thread on my project car at the moment, it's a mx-5 nc 20th anniversary originally a 1.8l but a stroke of madness struck and bought a very rusty RX-8 for the engine.
I'll post more over the next couple of days

Propshaft end was a direct swap. The ppf I ended up making an adapter plate for, bottom bolts line up perfectly with propshaft centreline.
PPF is now bolted up and the propshaft is in!

Luckily the car was a cat c and all of the airbags had blown. All of the wires in the pile are redundant so far, stripped out air bags, amp and a few other bits of wiring. Got to do the 2 dash one next.
Also found a way of extinguishing the air bag light!

First up  :welcome: to Mazda Rotary club

Good project and as you probably know the RX-8 and the NC share the same floor pan. The NC was very nearly a Rotary anyway and it went as far as Mazda Germany having demonstrators before the final piston or Rotary decision was taken.

Few of these conversions have been done and Jon (Boosted) sorted a race car version a while back.

We look forward to seeing it up and running as a  Rotary  :)
All the best Clive

Thanks for the kind words. I have already spoken with Jon on the phone who directed me here.

Only thing I'm struggling with is wiring at the moment, I can only find US spec diagrams. Stupidly I cut a section of wires out to lengthen the ABS plug (using rx8 abs pump) abs didn't anticipate needing the car loom...

I believe the wiring diagrams are on here somewhere but it won't let me access the link. I've paid to be a full member but unsure if it's been validated.

I did it about 2 weeks ago and realised I paid again last night by mistake. Hopefully one lot of payments come out.

Any body know what these green plugs are for? I'm currently 20 miles away from the donor car and I can't go and check. Thanks in advance! Rx8 231 dash loom if that helps
