Apologies for the forum downtime
« on: February 14, 2018, 08:13:21 PM »
You may have noticed we were off air for about 36 hours until around 6.30pm this evening  :(

I'm told by our hosting company (TSO) that the cluster of servers hosting all domains beginning with "M" had an issue on Tuesday (yesterday). They fixed the problem quickly, but our forum and website didn't come back up as expected. After a few exchanges with TSO the solution seemed to be to reload from a backup taken about 9pm on Monday night, which has now been done.

Apologies to anyone who posted late on Monday night or early hours of Tuesday, as your posts will have been lost.

If anyone spots any issues, please report it here, but a cursory first look seems to show all is working OK (phew!).

Well, at least we've tested the backups work  :)

Apologies again for the forum going down, we think sometime on Sunday, 18th Feb - I wasn't available to log on that day so can't pinpoint exactly when.

I was at on trackday with my RX-8 at Snetterton yesterday (Mon 19th) when Rote8, who was also there, asked if I knew the forum was down on Sunday? I didn't know and couldn't do much until this morning when I had to "roll-back" on the advice of our hosting company to a "known good" point in time when the forum was operating. I had to choose 12.30am Sunday morning from a limited number of backups (generally around 2 each day), so I'm sorry that any posts after that time will have been lost  :(

I thought the previous "off-air" incident last week was isolated, but our hosting company are claiming it's probably a coding error on our forum. I'm finding that hard to believe, as the forum has been operating without any major issue for over 3 years and it went down just after the hosting company admitted a problem with their servers  :violent1:

So, I'll need to do some further work to try to ascertain why we had two outages in short succession and try a prevent a 3rd outage.
