Getting an RX8 to sub 6s 0-60
« on: December 19, 2016, 05:43:56 AM »
Let's suppose a friend of a friend has exactly the same car as I RX8 Kuro with exactly the same mileage (53k) totallt standard and no starting issues whatsoever.
Now, suppose this guy wants to get a sub 6s 0-60 and doesn't want to go mad with mods and money (say £1k-£1.5k).

Could I.....I mean could he achieve this with that kind of money without it being detrimental to reliability?

Please be aware that this friend of a friend isn't tech savvy so please keep the advice as simple (like me...i mean him)as possible.

Weight is your enemy...strip it out to just essentials.
Change the diff from a s1 to r3 diff for better acceleration and less top speed.
Drop the tyre circumference by fitting 17 alloys with a low profile tyre..again better acceleration.
Decat the exhaust.
All above either cheap or free except the r3 diff...about £650 2nd hand when i enquired.
Service it with fresh oil and coils leads n plug so it running optimum.
Below over budget...
Engine rebuild with porting either street or bridge.
Remap supercharging and turboing.
Thing is rx8s are about handling so send it down a b road with a focus st or equivalent on its chuff and youll get away from it....well i know i would lol.
Hope that helps.
For what they cost there a performance bargain.

Well,  I agree with Boosted.

And my opinion is that number one priority is that weight loss. Car is very heavy and you have to strip it to bare shell basically. All RX:s have quite big/strong/heavy chassis so you cant save weight there.

You can change carbon fibre body panels but that is expensive too.

Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.
