The truth about tuners.....
« Reply #15 on: August 15, 2004, 02:58:22 PM »
My experience so far.

Used re:worx to fix a boost problem, price for the work seemed good but took quite a while.  Geff was pretty busy so lack of customer service (no cup of coffee ;) ) was understandable.

Have used WGT for everything else (rebuild, mapping, de-cat etc) and their service is top notch.  Friendly and reliable but possibly not the cheapest.  Instant coffee wasn\'t the best either!  Quality of the work is as good as it gets and Pip\'s always happy to discuss and provide advice.

Fortunately not had any bad experiences yet.

Just bought some parts from Shy - service great so far ;)

Well I\'ve only used JPS as i\'ve had no need as of yet to take mine to a specialist. JPS I found great, good price for servicing, good advice and most importantly, let me stand about and watch everything they did *I like to learn* :D

I\'ll be using Reworx shortly, I\'m sure they\'ll be as great :D

I want boooooooost ;(

Great service from RX Motors when I phoned, but never got a response to an E-mail. :)

Very impressed with DS engineering when I took the car for a service. Whoever it was (Sorry, I forget names easily) struck me as being very honest and knowledgeable.

Good thread, I was going to start something similar.

I\'ve used Dragon Performance, and while Ross is a great bloke, forthcoming with information and help, I have found the delivery of orders to be appauling. Communication of updates was also less than acceptable for me.  I accept that I may have just been unlucky with the bits I ordered.

I\'m booked in for some work with Geff at RE:Worx at the end of the month. Looking forward to it, and hopefully it will inspire me to use a UK company again. No comments yet as I haven\'t been there :D

I\'ve used RX7Store.net and RX7Trix.com for all my other purchases. Both have excellent product ranges, good prices (even with import tax) and better customer services.

What I would give (not the car!) to live in the US or Australia.

Edited to say:  I should point out that I have only ordered twice from Dragon Performance, so it\'s not like it\'s happening all the time ;)

RX Motors - tops! New clutch fitted a few months back, comp test and plugs last month. Even got tea when the clutch was being done (oily tea stained mug which really added to the flava!)

Dragon : I\'ve bought a couple of things from Dragon and they both turned up next day exactly as promised. No problems there.

RX Motors : Tim always has what I need and luckily for me, he\'s not far away

..not sure I\'d drink his coffee though :rollin :rollin

DS Engineering failed to machine me a spare crank shaft pulley accurately despite reassurances - and it took him weeks to do (for my MX-5), also a MX-5 owning friend of mine had serious problems with him when he asked for his car to be returned to stock.  After a long time of nothing seemingly being done, he went to collect it to do it himself to find his hood slashed and bits missing.

Neither of us will be using him again.

further to my other comments about Dragon.....

I received my Full C-West replica kit this week, which I had been waiting three months for, as the front bumper wasn\'t in stock and had to be ordered.

Well, as it goes the bumper was apparently stuck in customs for a while. Anyway, I asked for a full refund or a solid delivery date. Amazingly, the bumper happened to have turned up and was ready to ship.  Ok, still wasn\'t happy but agreed to accept the shipment to save hassle for both parties.

So I open the box to find a second hand already been painted front bumper, that is cracked on the bottom and has other fibreglass repairs.

I don\'t remember that being part of the £1500 I paid!

So Ross, are you telling me this is the bumper I waited 3 months for??

Regards,

Extremely pissed off Dragon Customer

Always used Rotechniks until I started servicing it myself.  Excellent service, particularly if David Rollings works on your car, that man is a gentleman and a talented engineer.

I always seemed to get what I wanted from Rotechniks, it was undeniably expensive, but at the time I could afford it and gave them total freedom to replace anything necessary whilst working on the car.

Used RX Motors and Dragon for various bits, found them perfect for that.

I hear stories about others, but if experience counts then I suspect it would be difficult to get better than Tim (RX Motors) and Pip (WGT).

Used WGT for the past 2 years, rebuild, new exhaust, boost problems, tiny niggles, have found it nothing short of fantastic.

Pip always makes time to come and chat to you about any queries you have, explains things thoroughly etc, great service, nice bloke.

One thing i will say (no criticism of Pip as it cant be helped) is when theres something up with your car its a pain in the arse to have to wait around 3 weeks till it gets sorted, amazing how in demand his services are, although i can see why! Its about time he expanded and employed a few more monkeys me thinks :D

WGT are fantastic. I could not recomend more highly.

Dragon, well as Martin said Ross is a nice person. Unfortunatly my car was away for 11 months and had to go to WGT just to get running. My experience is similar to Garys with his car. I am not going into to much detail as it is all going to court. Some people on here have seen my car and trust me they are horrified. I will wait untill the solicitors have finished with him before all the deatails are released.
