A thing of beauty. Just makes me wish I had my ordinary bog standard RX back again.
Finance dictated it had to go 13 months ago,  after 14 years in an RX8 regretted ever since.

Carl used to say that he called these side PPs as they're just so big there's not much left of the rotor housing

Yeah, what I have understand, Kiwis and Aussies used to use them alot, cause they banned PPs...

I reckon that those can flow almost as much that PP flows.

Part of the inlet port is always open on the rotor housing, plus they cut from both ports into the housing so it definately has more area than a PP. Carl show me of his and I think there was only 40mm in the centre of the housing left

You have to use 1 piece apex seals when you go that far, that just makes them hard to start.

I tried working out the inlet degrees timing ages ago and couldn't get my head a round it, my dad could but he's a massive 2 stroke guy.

I think the inlet opening time on  a PP would be 359* as it essentially never shuts

With the monster port it would prety much be the same.

IT would be interesting to know the surface area of a monster port versus the area of the port going into the housing

You cut away into the water jacket but if you do it properly and maintain the water seal there's no reason they can't last a long time, but they are definately just a "race" port, I think I properly tuned NA setup using monster ports can net 280hp

Mazda UK just posted this up.

Here's a #tbt to one of the least known cars in Mazda's Le Mans history. In 1975 a privately entered RX-3 took part in the race, having tried to qualify in 1974 (first pic). Drivers in 1975 included Jean Rondeau, who would go on to win the race in his own Rondeau car #mazda100
