Reminds me of the stories I was told about the American single seater drag racers from the 50s.

People experimenting with big horsepower v8s and the transmission couldn't keep up.

Accelerator one side of the bell housing brake on the other.

Well I don't need to mention the gory details, but when the transmission lets go the drivers end up about 10" shorter in height.

You may know this, but after Don Garlits had his accident below, he lay in his hospital bed and decided it would be safer to have the engine and transmission behind him, so the rear engined top fuel dragster was born.

I did know about a particular person, but what an horrific way to lose your feet.
