I was chatting to Clive at Tunerfest (Brands Htach) yesterday and we were comparing notes about when we first drove there. I've dug out my pic of a "Corporate Day" I attended in 1978 at Brands. We were meant to be driving clapped out, rev-restricted "school" Formula Fords for the session, but we saw a novice, taking his ARDS test in one, come off and destroy it in a tyre wall. That meant they were short of a car in the fleet so had to roll out a race prepped FF to make up the numbers. Yours truly got the lucky straw and, after a short session with an instructor in an M3, I was let loose with this beauty with a stern warning not to bin it! I, and the car, survived. I remember that experience vividly. The noise, the view over the wheels, the vibration, the stiff and very agricultural gearchanges - it got me hooked on going out on track, even though it took a few years to do trackdays regularly  :)

Yes, that really is me in the cockpit, with considerably more hair than today. The 70's, the era of long hair and flared trousers  ;)

How did that new wing mount worked?

Lol, I was born 78 so I wasnt racing back then...
But I really love those old photos. Back then, especially 30's-50's, gents had balls...

Excellent picture Malcolm, really lucky to get let out in a proper race car  :great:

OK if we are doing embarrassing pics, here we go  :-[.

This is up in the area where we were parked yesterday, in --------------1974,  I rolled the car and destroyed it later in the day coming  off Clearways !

(Note the number on the door  ;))
