Tyre size advice
« on: December 31, 2014, 02:46:21 PM »
Hi

I bought a set of 18 inch rota options et30 9.5 all round with 245 40 18 continental tyres on .
I have had the front arches rolled but they are still fouling the wheel arch liner , I don't want to get rid of the liners so any advice on a drop in tyre size maybe 225 40 18 ? Just worried about tyre stretch on a 9.5 rim and that the drop in size would cure the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated
Kev.

Been looking on the internet all day and sending myself mad with offsets and aspect ratios and can't get a definitive answer .

The question I'm asking is if I get a 245 35 18 tyre on the front that should give me some more clearance on the arch and the liner but will they be ok with the 245 40 18s on the back or will this combo cause any problems .

Hi mate. Cant for the life of me remember my offset i ran on my fd but i had 265s on rear and never touched lots of room in back arch....i still touched in fronts with 235 on the front when pushing on. I raised coilovers to limit scrubbing. My wheels where flush with bodywork so happy offset was good.
I think what im trying to say is rear nothing to worry about but i think you will get the occassional touch on the front as less clearance overall.

I've had the lip rolled , so that problem sorted , but still rubs arch liner and on lock and bumps and holes so I thought if I when down to 240 35 it might help .

Thanks for the reply

Its gonna improve but i still think youll get the occasional touch...i never holed my liners but theyre where scrape marks.
Low speed turns are not gonna do any damage but high speed suspension compression might...mine where hitting on avon rise at coombe...not nice. Are you on coilovers?

My fronts where 235 40s....prob with 35 ar...no sidewall at all and very harsh ride. But with ar a percent of width so maybe ok.
I think with 240 35 and 235 40 should be ok on standard suspension....but dont quote me.!

Thanks a lot for the offer , just had a chat with my local tyre place , they offered  a 24 35 and I didn't realise the difference it made .
It wouldn't look right , so he suggested a local engineering firm they use and said they could possibly take a few mil of the back off the back of the wheel to take the offset to 33 .
So I will have a chat with them .

Thanks again
Kev.
