So the time has come to sell my RX7 FC.
I’ve owned this from the beginning of 2014. I’m keen on drifting and it was my intention to fit a roll cage and some coilovers and turn it into my new drift car, however, after picking it up, I realised I just could not do that to this car as it was far too clean and original . So I bought another FC vert for the drift project and decided to recondition this one to resell.
It’s a 1986 Series 4 Savanna RX7 Turbo GT Limited (one of the very first FC’s and a Jap import)
It was bought new by a British lady living in Japan in 1986. She returned to Britain 6 months later and brought the car with her, importing it at the end of 1986. She used it around the Windsor area where she was living at the time. In 1999 it was laid up in her garage on her estate in Oxford.
Nearly 15 years later on (end 2013) she asked her gardener to sell the car for her as it had just been sitting in her garage for so long. It was sold to a guy in Rugby who planned to put it back on the road but he couldn’t get it running properly and gave up on the project and sold it on, which is when I came in.
When I got it, it was in a non running state. I replaced the fuel pump which solved the problem. It now starts first turn of the key, even if it is sat for some time, also starts fine hot or cold. Those who know the FC’s know they can be problematic with starting and a first time starter is a sure sign of a good engine.
I have gone over the whole car cleaning up and fixing up lot’s of little odd’s and sod’s including replacing the clutch hydraulics and bleeding the brakes and an engine bay clean. The car went straight through its mot with no advisories, so it now has a 12 month ticket on it and can be driven away (but you’ll need to tax it, as is still on a sorn, and insure it)
It comes with the original Japanese owners manual, original deep pile mats, original parcel shelf and the oem flare, the car is completely original and has no modifications to it. It also has some original optional extras - electronic heater controls, air con, original Jap radio graphic equalizer that works and is very cool. Also has ABS and Auto Adjusting Suspension.
It has just over 43,000kms on the clock (still reads in kmph) which converts to just over 27,000 miles. It’s lived in a dry garage for the whole of its life and so it has no rust at all, it has a few minor dents, most of which can be seen in the photos. To be honest, the paintwork isn’t perfect and I have replaced the passenger wing and door as the originals had some damage. There is a slight colour mismatch between the original red and the replaced parts and the GT Limited sticker on the passenger side wing is missing. Two spare Savanna wings are included in the sale (side repeaters in different place to uk cars).
I have tried to be totally honest about the RX7, it’s not a mint car but is in exceptionally good condition for its age and most importantly has no rot (the killer for most FCs). Even more importantly it has a very healthy low mileage engine and everything is standard and so this car is likely to be a future classic (I know in years to come I will regret passing it on).
If you want to know any other information or want to come and have a look just drop me a message.
