Question about oil change intervals in track cars
« on: August 24, 2014, 08:25:20 PM »
Hi,
Just want to ask a general question regarding oil change intervals on tracked cars. Not necessarily rotaries, but engines in general. For those that enjoy tracking cars, how often would you look at changing the oil and filter?  Got myself a runabout for the track, but would like some advice on  what others do about frequency of changing their oils. Every few track days, or time spent on the track? By mileage? Would appreciate some advice, thanks!

Had few track day cars and as a general rule ive always ran manufacters specified grade with exception of mazda for rotary.

And changed when oil starts turning black.

Oils cheaper than an engine so monitor oil colour/ smell and change when it starts getting darker.

no science just clean oil no combustion contaminants in it.

I do the same as above. Change it as soon as I can\'t see the dipstick through the oil. I seem to get about 4-5 trackdays and 2-3k road miles between oil changes.

Depends how hot your oil is getting if you need to consider changing oil viscosity/grade.
