Rx7 fd fans
« on: August 16, 2014, 01:44:39 PM »
I have done a quick mock up and my standard fans just will not fit my new cooling system,
That doesn\'t bother me as I was planning a aftermarket setup with controller.
My question is now my original fans are redundant can I just just cut out the thermoswitch and 4 control relays etc or will that start throwing errors to the ecu?

Has anyone done it before, cheers

not 100% mate but only outputs from ecu and no feed back to ecu so should not throw any codes.

Yeah done a bit of research and apparently it\'s nigh oh impossible to find a fan set aftermarket that is as slim and can flow as much as the standard units,

This has left me in a bit of a predicament as te original fan pack is wider than my radiator by about an inch on either side, I could build some kind of shroud and feed section but I think this is a bit of a Bodge,

Staying with standard fan setup could work well though even with aftermarket ecu as I will have more control through the ecu in setting preset temps etc and already have a system installed with relays and alike,

Would be cool to see the route other people have taken when it comes to cooling esp with a apexi pfc / haltech ecu

fans are pull type...room to mount on underside and push through?

are you v mounting or front mounting? gone to all this effort might as well go V and sort the cooling once and for all! Spal or kenlowe must have some mahoosive duty fans slimline...

1 push 1 pull?

always puzzled me why both the fd and rx8 have all that spare space below the aircon condenser that they didnt v mount from standard on the fd and vertically mount the rad in the rx8. I supposed surface area as there both large surface areas but can always go thicker and more direct airflow.

V mount was never in the plan and definitely not suited to my rad intercooler setup
So I have stuck myself in a corner some what,
I think the Dremel and sheet Ali may have to come out and play
