Evening Jon,

Can you give me a bit more of an insight into a "daytime" MOT ?

I know it may sound obvious...........

Is it just the headlights it relates to? or lack of?

Does this effect insurance in any way?

What are the restrictions of driving? lol not night time..... i mean, who decides an acceptable level of brightness to be able to drive in.....

Im weighing up my options, I read the wrong page of the IVA and thought the minimum height for headlights was 250mm from the floor..... turns out its 500mm from the floor to the lowest part of the light that emits light.

So slight adjustment to the bodywork shape or I run a daytime mot and keep the lines as they are.....

Cheers in advance.

No headlights no side lights just brake lights.
If there not there then daytime mot but if say you had headlights theyd have to work.
You going for iva?
At the age of car surely you got a v5?

Nope not going for IVA, I have a v5 but like Chevy truck if there are regulations I like to abide by them and use them as a guide so not to give anyone any ammunition.

Greetings!

SO I emailed Westfield this morning and asked if their Westfield XI is IVA compliant because their headlights on that model is much lower than the 500mm stipulated in the IVA regs.

The tech director responded with, the kit comes with pods/buckets to mount the headlights on for IVA and then owners fit their original ones.......lol what a farce.

so just been down the local preferred friendly MOT station where I take my incarnations.... There's no legal requirement from a MOT perspective on where they are mounted on the car

The beam has to be correct that's it. LED and Xenons must have wash wipe functions if factory fitted. I explained I have 7" LED's and he suggested just fitting H4 halogens for MOT purpose and fit the LED's after if I wanted.

Looks like nothing will come back to haunt me and Id have to alter all the bodywork once finished to make it legal.

It would appear the world is my oyster!

Mr MOT man said that once IVA/SVA has been approved then all they test on low volume cars is the basics because it sould have been "officially" verified.

So if they do the basics, maybe the cat doesn't come into it. Im assuming if youre on a Q plate its been IVA'd at some point in its life? I dunno

loads of loop holes and you get away with it, so we wont worry.

Glad we don't live in Belgium ! theyre really strict.

Yep...i could legally drive it to a track tomoz...pretty certain it would overtake pretty much 98% of all the cars there and drive home again lol.  Its fully sorted ready to go.
Its quick...Brad went out in his quickly driven mx5...i followed about 2 mins later...caught him...overtook....and then lapped him 7mins later. I remind him every now and again...
