450bhp 20b Mazda3 race car
« on: December 22, 2012, 09:04:45 PM »
I’ve done a search and I can’t find any threads relating to this.
As title says it’s a Mazda3 20b peripheral port 450bhp race car that competes in the Belgium touring car series.
I don’t really know much about the BTCS but it looks as though it’s a bit of an anything goes series, a bit like the Euro Saloons or Northern Saloons over here but on a bigger budget
Anyway here\'s a couple of links, one to the website of the place that built the car and a couple of YouTube clips of the car in action. I think the cars been pretty successful and sounds ace.
Cheers Martin

Good finds of a car I had only really heard of :Thumbs-up.

I saw a poster of the car out in the Netherlands last year and knew nothing of the car before then, and was told the body choice was the only way to get Mazda remotely interested as they were not interested in anything out of production.

I\'ve since seen glimpses of the car in what I thought was the Belgium Supercar series which has visited Brands in the past on Motors TV.
All the best Clive

Green FD used to race in that series, i think....

I´m just wondering about the rules in that series. What kind of cars is allowed. Because that Mazda with that layout isnt based on anything. :)

Still, awesome looking and sounding car... :)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

The FD was bought from Pettit in the USA and served for 3-4 years. The engine work was done by WGT (after I send them to Pip) Then the car got to old by FIA standards (new crash testting etc) and the team switched to a new chassis with a 20B engine built by Carlos...something in Miami. Very well known rotary engine builder.. his name just slips my mind.

Car has been very reliable since it\'s debut and competitive... For 2013 I don\'t really know what the plan is  but the driver is a customer of mine so I\'ll try to keep in mind and ask him next time

When you say the "new chassis" are you refering to the Mazda3 car?
Also how reliable is a N/A PP 20b producing 400+hp? How may race hours between rebuild and what would need changing?

20B conversion roughly £20,000. Just as reliable as any setup so long as you have a good tune

If running fuel injection you would be looking at around £25,000.00+ for an N/A PP 20B with around 450hp. It would require a refresh after a season of racing in club class types of racing where for example races were around 20 mins with similar qualifying.
That having been said it could also be built with around 400 hp for endurance racing and should be able to last for a 24 hour race before needing a refresh.
We had a 2 rotor engine that did 2 full 24 hour races and 11 hours in a 3rd race before the car had a serious incident with a Porsche and then after being repaired it still did alot of Britcar races with no rebuild. It eventually covered more than 10,000 race miles before needing a rebuild. Power was 365 hp with turbocharging in a power to weight limit.
Refresh prices are alot less than the initial outlay.
We warranty our rebuilt engines for Detonation, track day\'s and RWYB and NOW for 30 months which is two and half years or 30,000 miles
We also build all types of race or road engines.
We build race and track cars too.
Any kind of porting undertaken.
Single turbo conversions.
