OMP Thoughts.
« on: September 20, 2012, 12:07:02 PM »
I have got a new engine I will be fitting soon. I was thinking of not using the OMP and running premix or I could run OMP and just add a little premix to give a little security.

Will I have a problem if I just block lines at the OMP or will this mess up ECU?

Also is it advisable to get fuel injectors cleaned, they have done about 50K

Not sure about the Rx8 - but I wouldn\'t have thought it did anything smarter than the FC/FD ECU\'s with regard to the OMP - which is to detect open or shorted coils in the stepper motor, and check the resistor for position feedback. It isn\'t going to know you blocked the OMP lines.

I know people who have run both - a little premix for safety. You could use one of those OMP adaptors from Rotary Aviation and run your own 2 stroke through the oil injectors from a seperate tank - works a treat on the FC setup :), and it\'s guaranteed clean oil.

I think Prof\'s about right with the RX8 OMP.  Certainly you can block lines up and it blithely pumps oil in.

You can get a Sohn Adapter for it, it something I\'m considering.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

I would be tempted to do away with the OMP completely, tap and grub the rotors, and switch to a lesser pressure reg.

Up and running now. Have stuck with std OMP and adding a little 2stroke to fuel.

I\'m not sure about RX8\'s but i know i had an Issue with the quantity of 2 stroke oil being used when i had mine running (Tracy Couldn’t tell me the amount of flow the Kit was giving out and he said it was meant to be run on Aircraft at high RPM so I had measure it myself), after allot of reading up i was going to run RX8 jets with the smaller bores to try and meter it a little more but i had a problem with the Oil return on my Single fouling so that ended Play.

IMHO i\'d either stay with the stock set up or Go Fully Premix,  you can do both but tbh what’s the point? Spend your Money on Top Quality Engine oil instead.

This is another way of Doing the 2 stroke OMP mod (on an FD anyway)
