20 years old, 3 years NCB quote £5k-£19k
« on: April 19, 2011, 12:40:30 AM »
Hey people,

Just bought I\'d share my experience of trying to get insured on a 1992 RX7

Admiral-£5.5k

ClassicCar quote -£19k

Pretty much a standard rx7

I\'m 20 years old, got 3 years NCB, live in London and I have Pass Plus doubt that has any effect what so ever

Any other places I could look?

Thanks for the help upfront :)

19k is insane but mummy and daddy would pay this for a spoilt brat.

Unfortunately at 20 living in London its going to be high, i live on a military camp with armed guards on the gate and they dont seem to make a difference. Your best bet is to just phone everyone and see all the prices they offer then pick the best one.

Have you tried Sky insurance? Not sure if you have to be over 25 though but give them a call - Olly has sorted a few people (Inc\' me) recently with some good quotes.

@gsb876 tell me about it :( I was shocked to see 19k

@RXspeedy yea that\'s true, some people get given it on a plate others have to work hard to get something on that plate & yea that\'s another thing I\'ll have to do any specific companies u got in mind?

@goldk28611 nope haven\'t tried em out but I will do :)

19k is basically a \'bugger off\' quote unfortunately :(
I guess it\'s going to be high consdiering your age and location dude - have you got any experience driving high powered RWD cars? This often helps.
TBH I\'d advise you to get an MX5, build up more NCB and experience ove ra few years, then if you still want an FD, go from there.

Simaron - that\'s absurdly cheap - is that for a standard car? I\'m 29 and in a very low risk area, and am paying just over £350 for 3k miles/year.

As above at 20yrs old your gonna really struggle to get insurance on a RX7. When I was 20 (11 years ago now) I was driving a 1.6 cavalier or a AX 1.4 GT. Both of them were around £500 back then. I wouldn\'t even have considered a RX back then it\'s just not worth it.
My advice would be to get a FB or an FC Egi for a year or 2 just to get your no claims up whilst still having some RWD fun.

Insurance sucks but you\'ve got to make the best of it.

I\'m 23 and insurance on my FC3S is a grand, and I\'ve got 5 years no claims. I can get that down to about the £720 mark adding a housemate with more experience as a named driver, but they\'re getting really hot on that lately making sure your named driver actually lives with you. :/

I know im gonna get slated for this but i don`t care. If you want cheap insurance just lie. Even if you have a modded rex with £20k+ spent on it you wouldn`t get half the amount if you crashed it.
Be like me and lie. :3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh:3gears-rh

bad idea posting that mate! So you\'re one of the FDUKers that makes our insurance premiums even higher than they need / should be, bcoz of not playing straight?! ;(
Each to their own.....
.... and you\'re 31 aren\'t you? So not really in a position to compare!
