air pump help plzzz
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:36:59 AM »
hi guy my 1st post just bought myself a fd3s already running in to a bit of a prob
i was driving it one night then heard a loud squeak frm the engine bay so though beta pull over n did that then stop the engine for 5mins then try again but all then i can see was white smoke cumin frm the aux belt the 1 that drives the air pump and water pump then felt it, it way too tight thought that was the prob, the belt is now changed but the problem still here, bow i have tym dig a bit deeper and found that the air pump clutch plate is engaging soon as the engine starts, i have now disconnected the wire that is on top of the pump and its all running fine, so its just the pump at fault or is there sommit else that i need to check, if its just the pump can some 1 give me a dummy\'s guide to as how u change it this is my 1st rx7 thx in advance

Do you need an air pump? I\'ve recently had mine removed, working order... can find out how much it\'ll cost to send if you like, yours for whatever they are worth ? ;)

remove it and have it dealt with... ive removed my air pump, ACV, carbon cannister, and it runs so much smoother.

I\'m in Leeds, I took mine of the car a few years ago, I recently found it in a box in the garage thought id burned the thing. You can have it for free if you collect.  It worked when I took it off the car but who knows now :Hammer

Replacing it is very easy just a matter of bolts, belt and a connector.
I woof in your general direction.

to be fair i really want to get rid of the pump altogether as it will be 1 less thing to go wrong but i heard that to do this mod some serious money need to be spent on it. some advice that i have got is that i need to get a decat pipe then a apxi ecu boost controller other wise i will be at risk of getting  boost spikes is that true what do i need i just want to make my car more reliable

if you take your air pump off,put a decat on with out remapping your engine, you are at risk of detonation so i have been told,(detonation is where the enigine goes boom)the air pump is there to keep emissions down so it feeds the catolic converter with air, most people take theres off and it does run alot smoother, iam currently doing mine at the minute,it can cost alot of money if not done correctly you should use the search button to find posts taht relate to this toipic :)
