A "how do they do that" question
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:47:26 PM »
Was watching a program on Megastructures on NatGel channel last night, and they were following the construction a skyscraper in China. Just looked up the tallest man made building, the Burj Dubai. There is a picture (attached) showing construction at the top. I am not a construction engineer, but I understand how the cranes remain at the top of these structures, but how on earth you get those 2 cranes down from 3/4 of KM up in the sky?!?
Hats off to the construction people, steel workers etc - I get dizzy just looking at the pics!

I think all they do,is dismantle it & bring piece by piece back down :)

Mind you,I like the idea of using Parachutes for the bits of Crane :Giggle:Giggle:Giggle:Giggle

Simple, use one of the cranes to lower the other down bit by bit, then use a helicopter to take the remaining crane down.

Grizzly is right they use helicopters to remove these cranes once they reach the end of the build, During the build they use each other to moved up to the next stage of the structure  !! :god:god
