Went to a little car show at Leeds Castle yesterday with the RX-4 and had a nice supprise.

We met a Japanese older lady who was a "car girl"!

She was super excited to see a Luce, as she had only ever seen a few coupes in Japan when they were new, she even knew her Cappellas, from her Savvanas  :).

She went on to tell us that the reason the Luce (RX-4)  was rare in Japan was because they were expensive against other brands, BUT, she went on to tell me that where she lived in Osaka, because the Luce was fast the Police bought them so they could keep up while chasing the Japanese Mafia!

She showed me a great picture on her phone of a Police "Panda car" which I thought was ironic as we used to call our Police cars "Panda cars"

I cant find the picture she showed me, but she also said they made models of the Luce Police and I found one of those. Still into cars and she found a red Luce on her phone for sale in Japan, 11000 GBP needing a full resoration.

You just never know who you may meet at a car show and this was so odd I thought I would share  :great:

So captain Clive....... The insomnia kicked in, so I took your advice and did the cover to cover thread.

Glad I did because all the pictures showed up on my iPad, when I clicked the first page on the puter at work they didn't.

Don't think Emma shared my enthusiasm with the iPad glaring at her at stupid o'clock in bed..... She will learn one day lol.

Anyhoo.... Gorgeous car, yellow is my fav colour, but you've done it to death so no chance of me doing the Rotus that colour, even in my fav shade called " reddish yellow cocktail" which used from Kenny Roberts Yamaha America colours back in the 70s/80s. So I'll stick with mandarin orange lol.

The colour suits it, the size of wheels suit it and glad you gone with a more period engine.

The lines are to die for, I'm very jealous. You dropped on a gem of a shell. I had a similar fortune on my mk1 escort estate. Some old boy crashed his back in the 70s, bought a brand new shell from Ford and transferred all the bits over, had a heart attack, never finished it and the car sat collecting dust and pigeon poo for years to come.

Then in 2005 ish I got my hands on it, I was building a Vauxhall powered Anglia 105e at the time, but I didn't have the skills I have  today and couldn't see the light at the end of the tunnel. A deal was made and I set to the escort with an angle grinder fitting a whole new transmission tunnel, grp4 suspension turrets and 4 link boxes.

Ok it made front cover of classic ford magazine, but I wish I had taken your route of more period mods, maybe do an RS2000 estate replica, Ford only made one.

It's such a god send to find shells in this condition, it's peace of mind, no never ending months of sourcing replacement panels and lay on your back getting burnt to death welding. They are worth so much more in original condition, and as you've said, it can all be put back to stock with wheels etc.

Great thread Clive, great car, can't wait to see it in the flesh.

In the words of Richard Rawlings ...... Winner winner chicken dinner !

Its just Rotors and GRP

I bet !

Im gonna have to take some tissues to mop up my dribble off the bodywork.

If im brutally honest, I respect it more for being a stunning classic than a rotary car.

Although the Rotus is powered by a rotary, to this day, Ive never ever heard a rotary engine running in real life only on vids, never had the privilege of travelling in one and obviously never driven one......

So as a complete "virgin" I havnt to date, been bitten by the rotary bug. So im really excited about JDM this year, and as Jon has kindly offered to whizz me round as a passenger on one of his sessions Im doubly excited, even though im not sure what he will be driving.

So lets hope the bug does bite  :13: :13:

Jamie, I've just got the one track session booked to take my RX-8 on track at JDM. Jon has booked that same session as me (11.30am), and another one at 14.15pm. If you would like to passenger with me in the first session and see Jon fly past in whatever he's driving in the first session, then you can go out with him in the later session. It'll give you experience 2 different rotaries on track. Let me know if you'd like me to put your name on my passenger seat before I offer it elsewhere  ;)

That’s very kind thank you.

I gotta try and get the father-in-law a go in one somewhere if I can.

He’s done track days but too scared to take his gt86 round coz it’s his baby.

Mind you at 70 something best he stays off the track lolll bless him

I'm sure your father-in-law can blag a passenger ride in one of the other RX-8's going out on track, there's usually a few seats on offer. I know most of the people going along, so can ask around if he feels like a session out on the track.
