TII - Comments please
« on: October 22, 2005, 01:58:28 PM »
Hi everyone.

Hope its ok if I ask your advice on this TII on FleaBay :
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mazda-RX7-Turbo-II-1990_W0QQitemZ4583132729QQcategoryZ18211QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

No one has bid on it yet with about 1 day left.  It does have high mileage and will need a rebuild.  The paintwork is in shocking condition - is this like the thread I read about where some people had paint just peel away, this is a little more extreme though!

I am after a project and would like to one day rebuild an engine (I know its not an easy job but its something I would like to do)

Please any comments and advice would b very much appreaciated.

Thank you,
Ricco.

At the end of the day, it\'s meant to be fun - not a political movement! :burnout

Mmmmm that did cross my mind!  I was also reading the "rusty the clown" thread.  The floor rust on that has been repaired now I believe.  If the car did have major floor rust then this can be repaired with sheet metal & a welder?  But does it get to a point where its impossable to repair?  ie can you only patch up or can you basically redo the whole floor?

Agreed that engine requires a rebuild asap?

What are the TII\'s like with that sort of mileage (suspension bushes etc)

Cheers, Ricco.

The car i bought (rusty the clown thread) wasnt too bad i suppose, it just goes along the edges and its not too bad to fix, if you not handy with a welder it will cost you aroudn 300 quid to fix, and the job the guy did on mine is a very good one....

Take a screw driver with you and have a poke around where mine / bretts / stu\'s T2\'s have rusted (right along the sides next to the sills)  you will probably find some rust but just bear in mind that when you think you have a little 10p hole its very easy to make it into four very big piles of rust. you only have to cut out whats rotten. and nothing is impossible to repair as you can get replacement panels from the dealer / cut another RX up!

Ok, so the floor can be fixed! :D  (anything else to check?)

Im now quite tempted to get this (love the colour, well whats left of it! and it has the later spec stuff like the rear lights!)

Mmmm ok speak to Mr Dad for the car with the towbar and speak to neighbour for the tralor, Brother in law has a welder.  I have the rebuild dvd\'s and a stubborn nature to keep giving up and go back to it in the end!

oh and I keep this picture for inspiration :D . . . . .

to be honest i wouldnt think a TII would make it too 120K on the same engine

i would be worried about the fully synth oil - they are only supposed to run on mineral

but if you can get it for 500 then its not bad at all

mine had 106K on the clock now - and its a bit twidgity on the road - but nothing too serious ( if you keep it below 130 !! LOL )

the paint could be an issue - check for rust - i know you read nas\'s thread about rust - have a search for "dis-heartened" - you can see how bad mine was !

Its got the same problem as mine had, The paint comes off in big chunks.

120k is alot of miles. If i was you i\'d keep his e-mail and watch it untill it finishes. then offer him £350-400 (treat it like a car that wants both slls/Floor, back lower arches welding up and a Full metal repaint?)

It depends on if your are doing it the enthusiast way (spending more on it than its worth) or the Grinder way (spending on it less that what its worth so you don\'t loose money).
