Can We Clear This Up??
« on: January 07, 2005, 03:08:52 PM »
Ok,
ive been reading all about Rex\'s on the net in different countries.

Could we clarify signs of a dying engine??

ive read that bad starting, bad idle and poor fuel consumption can show imminent death?

Mine starts straight away, idles (once warm) at 700-800 RPM,

BUT... the fuel consuption is appauling (as im sure they all are)

so ive fullfilled one of the death criteria.

Is it possibly dying??

(bear in mind its been recently roaded at 312 fw/bhp)

thanks

I hope that poor fuel economy isnt a sign of engine death. If so then every FD owner would living in fear everytime they filled up with optimax.

The others are true in context. Although i think that compression is the biggest test?

Yeah i think you could be right,
the workshop manual states \'Poor Fuel Economy\' though??

The manual was obviously made before the car was!!

If it starts first time and you idle sounds spot on i wouldnt worry.

Fuel consumption hee hee, this club should buy shares in Shell, the amount of money we spend alone would push up the price of the shares and we could get our memberships for free! ;)

Unfortunatly everyone in Bexhill uses battery powered cart so ive gotta go 10 miles to get a Optimax hit.

Only 10!!

My nearest shell garage is about 15!!  Theres a BP 8 miles away and I use that if really desperate.

My fuel consumption can be terrible, motorway driving I had nearly 320 miles from a full tank!! I thought that was great...

This week  120 miles to a full one!

bad fuel consumption could be caused by dirty fuel injectors. have them cleaned
