Seized engine
« on: July 17, 2016, 12:19:09 PM »
Hi, I've have just brought my first RX-8 and am very excited to get it on the road. The car has been sitting for 3 years and took some encouragement to load onto my trailer. Apparently is was in good order when laid up but I can't manually turn the crank and suspect the engine is seized! I am not a mechanic by any means so need some advise on what to do next. I had intended to change the oil, fuel, battery etc. but don't want to waste time and money on these if the engine needs a re build!

Look forward to your thoughts

Many thanks

Ben

Hi mate really is a question of whole long is a piece of string and how trustworthy is seller...
How have you tried to turn engine? Youd need a breaker bar on eccentric shaft nut not a ratchet unless your the hulk....id personally remove spark plugs and spray penetrating oil into chambers...turn engine slighlty repeat and fill all chambers....then id leave 24 hours and crank off starter with plugs out and fuse for fuel pump removed....
Check all levels put sparkys back in and try to fire up.

Just a thought, if you put the car in neutral, does the car roll.

If you cant the car  may be stuck in gear, if not follow Jon's advice
All the best Clive
