I. C. E. & Electrical / 2nd gen wiring gurus!
« on: February 04, 2006, 05:18:39 PM »
I am fitting a 13b into a beetle, and the long and short of it is that i have one loom that i KNOW works, and one fitted to the engine going in. Being lazy i figured i\'d whip the loom off the new engine, and just connect up my exsisting loom. The only part of the loom i couldnt remove went under the inlet manifold and over (i presume) to the second injector rail and the water temp sender. I cut off this bit of the loom as i was in a rush, and figured i\'d do the same to my exsisiting loom, after all it was only 8 wires!
Most match up....its just there are 2 black wires of higher gauge than the rest of the wires. Does it matter which these are connected too? Are these just negative wires from each injector, and thus shoulodnt cause a problem?
ITs a cluster of wires with (green black red spots) (green red spots)(dark green white) (black red spots) (orange/brown red spots) (orange black red spots (i think)) and then the two black wires.
I know its vague but how else do i explain??? lol

Chees in advance

General Technical / is a bike can too restrictive?
« on: January 16, 2006, 12:08:37 AM »
i have a 13b NA in a beetle......i have a bike can fitted from a triumph 1000. Is this likely to be too restrictive? the issue is that the exhaust needs to be short- theres not a lot of room. Its backfiring loudly and (although comical) its not too nice for daily use.
What do you recommend? could it be causing the backfiring? I know the exhaust gasket needs doing too....

The other thing is does anyone have the dimensions of one handy? im gonna try and duct some air over it to keep her cool in my beetle.

Chees guys

got a 13b motor in a bug. The engine gets hot in traffic, and the radiators about as big as i can get it. Whats the best oil cooler/fan upgrade from standard? who wells oil cooler kits?

Cheers guys

« on: October 11, 2005, 08:47:21 PM »
i realise this is the hottest an engine should run at in water temp terms, but is it ok for an engine to sit at this temp....pretty consistently?
