red rx4 spotted by a friend of mine on a trailer on the m4 heading towards south wales. unfortunately he didnt get the hauliers details or the reg of the car. was a red one

My mate Bob sent me these pics of a burnt out FD near where he lives on Box Hill Surrey. It\'s still there now as far as I know. What a sorry site It\'s on Lodge Bottom Road. Did anyone on here lose it?

Cosmo's / JC Cosmo Gearbox needed.

If anyone can help out with a good secondhand gearbox for a JC Cosmo please contact me. Obviously if several people contact me preference will go to the best price!

Well I know It was bought by me as a present for my girlfriend. It was presented to her this morning with a big bow on it, she is made up! Previous owner Frank has also put the website back together for me with a nice little birthday message on it http://www.savanna-rx7.co.uk . Below is the birthday card a friend made up for me, unfortunately my scanner is a bit crap so the scan doesn\'t do it justice. So expect to see it st meetings soon

Cosmo's / New Cosmo, a few questions

Dear fellow cozzie owners, I now have my 20B cozzie, collected from Ireland this weekend and have a few questions This being the third Cosmo I have owned I have come to the conclusion that they all (from my experience)
1. Have warped disc brakes
2. Have suspension creaks and knocks
3. Have a rattling / vibration coming from the gear selector area under acceleration.
and 4. Have all the leather flaking off the steering wheel

So, on point 1 i\'d assume my best initial option is to have the discs skimmed and get new pads? anyone have a source for pads and Kev, have you carried out your FD brakes conversion yet?

On point 2 does anyone have any pointers as to which are the most problematic areas of the suspension and where I should look for the cause of the noises. I know the guy that had C11SMO mentioned he\'d replaced a lot of suspension parts on his.

Point 3, anyone else noticed this and found a cure?

Point 4, I guess I could get the wheel retrimmed (don\'t really wanna go non standard) the 13b cozzie needs it doing too so might get a discount! Or of course the unlikely chance of finding a good s/h one.

I also have an ABS problem, the ABS doesn\'t work and the ABS light is on almost permanently. Even when it goes out the ABS still doesn\'t work. Also when you brake, the Brake warning light flashes on. The brake fluid is not low. I no nothing about ABS so wouldn\'t know where to start! Are there some sensors that could be at fault or something?

General Technical / Look at this for a compression reading!

Got back from Bromley Pageant today (didnt see one mazda rotary!) and decided to do a compression test on my 1969 Ro80 and am rather pleased with the result. It\'s just faultlessly done another continental trip bringing the mileage of the engine to 22,000. Not a huge mileage I know but considering virtually every article you read about the ro80 comes up with nonsense of engines lasting 10,000 miles i think it\'s fair to say this has at least the same again and more left in it!

Cosmo's / Advice on cosmo insurance

Can anyone who owns a cosmo let me know who it is insured with and if you have it insured as a 1.3 for the 13b as i\'m having difficulty getting a realistic quote. Tried Adrian Flux and Footman both over £600 but also arguing with the 1.3 badge!

1st generation RX-7's / Dilemma

Since selling her series 1 RX7 18 months or so ago my girlfriend has been hankering after another one, being rather bored with the automatic Honda civic she is currently driving. Despite not really being able to afford it the Ebay bug got the better of us a week or so ago and we bought two RX7\'s from up Bradford way. One clean looking car with a knackered engine along with a rough one with an apparently good engine. Some of you may have seen the listing. Unfortunately because of the distance (250 miles ish) we didn\'t view the cars and trusted the description. Both cars were delivered yesterday at a cost of £300 and I was instantly disappointed. Although generally clean on the body it wasn\'t as good as expected with more patches of localised rust and areas or poor paintwork, but my real horror was today when I got to see underneath properly. I had asked my friend Bob to make a start on the welding as I had seen last night that some was needed on the end of the sills, but after having been under it today I\'ve asked him to stop. The floor and ends of the sills at the rear of the car are repairable, although worse than expected but what I couldn\'t believe was just how badly rusted everything is. The diff, suspension parts, brake lines fuel lines are all just flaking away in big chunks, I\'ve dragged 35 year old NSU Ro80\'s out of fields that are better than this! Also the petrol tank is disintegrating. It\'s like the car has spent years under a tarpaulin in a field, it originates from Scotland, don\'t whether that is a contributing factor in it\'s state? Anyway, the dilemma is what to do now? If we do all the work required (which is a lot) we\'ll have spent the amount of money required (if not more) to buy a decent one and if we cut our losses and scrap it we\'re £750 out of pocket. The parts we will need (from initial investigation) are complete fuel line replacement, a replacement petrol tank, complete brake overhaul (callipers, hoses, pipes etc) all rubber bushes look in a poor state and the whole underside will need wire brushing and repainting. We had expected to do an engine swap and have it on the road in a week! So, any suggestions or advice appreciated. Does anyone have any ideas what the callipers will cost to refurbish and what a tank will cost? If I had some of these parts available to just swap over rather than having to repair everything myself it would relieve the burden a little. A crashed donor car just off the road would be ideal I suppose. Anyway, feedback appreciated Phil. (depressed)
