3rd generation RX-7's / A Picture of Your RX-7 - Everyone!

Chris, send me a PM with your VIN and I\'ll confirm what number it is out of 650.

Yes Mazda made 650 Type R Bathurst R\'s, not 500 as per their press release of the time.

Any other info you want, drop in at FDRX7.com. All welcome :)

Guys any idea what a JDM 1992 FD silver is?

Yep.

It\'s Silverstone Metallic, code 3L.

As well as the the RB there was an RB-S (or RB with S-Package), the S-package included the adjustable 99 spec rear spoiler, front fog lamps and suede seats.  The sticker in the door shut should show whether it is an RB or RB-S.

Kevin

The decal will show "Grade" RB even on an RB-S.

The "Model Spec" code for the RB-S is different, however.

The term "Special Edition" on the VIN decal is a header. If it was special, there would be something under that header.

In all my years of looking, I\'ve never seen a JDM FD with something under that header. Even my RZ has nothing there. I\'ve hunted down VIN decals for ages, never seen the word "Bathurst" on one either.

I know spirit R\'s had a special plate on the bulkhead of the engine bay, the other side to the normal vin plate.
Like this

Adam

Yep, got a few pics of those.

The info I wanted to get from the decal included the model-spec code, in the bottom LH corner.

That\'s not on the plate, unfortunately.

why do the aus authorities remove the identity door tags?

Since I posted this thread, I\'ve come over to the possibility that the Spirit R may never have had a drivers doorframe VIN decal (which is odd, as all other S8\'s had them).

Special "grey import" cars (like the 99-02 FD\'s) get issued with a new VIN number on arrival. It\'s basically the JDM VIN with a 6U90000 added as a prefix.

OIC....I thought there\'d be oodles of them!

Fair enough, I\'ll continue my search closer to home.

Cheers :).

Hi gents, hope you can help me.

I\'m collating a database of every Spirit R built, drawing on catalogs, brochures and websites for information.

I have most of what I need, but I\'d like to try and find some door frame VIN decal pictures to validate some of my data.

We have quite a few Spirit R\'s in Australia, however the local authorities are removing the decals when the cars are imported, so I\'m having difficulties sourcing pics.

Ideally I\'d love to find a Type A, Type B and Type C VIN decal, however I\'ll settle for anything at this stage!! Each decal will have differing information, hence the reason for chasing all three types.

Cheers

Here\'s a pic of a version six RB decal to illustrate what I\'m after:

3rd generation RX-7's / Finished 99 Spec Conversion - Question
« on: April 08, 2010, 05:13:32 AM »
No mate, it\'s a wide open hole.

Unlike the RX-8 which is/was so prone to aircond condensor damage that Mazda fitted grilles to later models, the FD\'s heavily angled jobbie seems much less prone to stone damage.

Don\'t think I\'ve ever heard of a late FD with a punctured condensor.....rest easy.
